Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 116)
(Newest replies first)

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

Oh its too bad he passed away he was about my age from what I understood. Thanks for all the replies it's helpful. It's been difficult since I moved here as I am on Medicaid. How did he pass if you don't mind me asking?

Hi, Jet! Nice to see you back. I'm very sorry to hear about your recent surgery and your arm. Do you mind if I say a prayer for you?
In your absence, we've had two deaths of active board members... So very sad. Also, we haven't heard from Wendy... I fear the worst for her, as well.
Anyway, I'm happy that you are, at the very least, safe.

William,

My name is also William....or Bill. I am also fairly new to Colorado, but I lived here before. When I moved back, it was with no job or insurance....I was on Medicaid. If that is your situation.....look to Denver Health Lowry Clinic. I had all my ducks in a row and found Dr. Kornfeld. He kept me on the identical pain program that my old doc had me on and had no issues with it. Once I found a decent job with real insurance, I researched docs in my plan....and interviewed 4. I found a great Dr in Parker less than 2 miles from my house that also has no issues with keeping me on the same pain management program that I have been on for 3 years. His name is Russell Bloom and he seems great.

My issue is due to a knee replacement that went bad due to a defective part. I am a bit overweight....which makes things worse.....and being new to my job, I don't have 6 to 12 weeks to recover from a surgery. Hence pain management until things fall into place. With all of the top back and spine research clinics in the Denver area.....you just may find a doc that can fix things right.....best of luck to you on that!! Otherwise.....as for finding a good doc that will take you seriously, take a look at the 2 I mentioned, and look deep into the docs in your insurance plan. Do not believe for a second that going to multiple docs equates to Dr shopping.

I just got out of the hospital from a very serious infection that still may cost me my arm. I am on pain meds from the surgeon and infectious disease doc......and still have my active pain management contract. I will never get in any trouble simply because everything is very well documented and all done at the same pharmacy. I wish you nothing but the best. Almost no one deserves to live in pain and agony....except for rapists and child molesters! There are good docs that will prescribe pain meds if you have your ducks in a row and don't walk in asking for a specific medication. I simply supplied my record....explained that the meds they have me on work best for me in my situation, and am willing to discuss all options with them. Good luck.....and welcome to Denver! You will love it here.

William... Welcome to the board. You should know that the founder of this thread, Mac, passed away in November. However, several of us have become a little bit of a family... And we will try to help. Please read the posts backwards and you will find many current references to doctors that may be able to help you. I know it takes more time than just saying a name, but there is lots of excellent info in those posts. The posts by Janey are particularly good.

Welcome to all the new people. I haven't been posting much so haven't said it before. Some of the people here are very knowledgeable and most always, even if it takes some time, someone has information that can help.

JaneyGirl,

Please check us posted on what is going on with you. I am very upset that they didn't take you in the same day or the following day. I'm sure you are too. Sometimes the hurry up and wait isn't acceptable. I just had an experience with the Specialist, who called me himself, and I made him repeat it twice after he told me the first time LOL. He was saying that my results came back positive. I hung up and called my Primary immediately. He worked me in the next morning. He said no, there's a mistake. He ran the diagnostic again and all was negative. Then because I had a positive and a negative, he ran the diagnostics a third time, which were also a negative. Point is, the second opinion is sometimes truly the answer. I'm having a had time with wrapping my head around Fuzzy. I feel so deeply sorry for her daughter and husband. I'm sure others of you are having trouble with this too.

Janey! It seems like they should be able to get you in sooner... That's terrible that you have to wait, and wait, and wait... On everything.
I am struggling with the whole "God has a plan" thing after Fuzzy's death, but deep in my heart I do believe that there is a plan and that we can find strength knowing that. I think this Bible verse fits you... You have been a "prophet" of sorts for all of us here.

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

Janey, you have a gift... We love you and we are praying and you WILL be okay. <3

Oh my goodness! My heart goes out to Fuzzy's family and that precious little girl! Thank u so much for sharing this with us.

Phoenix,
I understand your concern regarding your doc and u shouldn't feel bad about finding someone who is a better fit for your pain issues. You need to look at it as u would look at a specialist for any other medical issue, pain does require a specialist. I understand your relationship with him, use that as a platform for allowing u to find someone else. Enlist his help. Just tell him that although u adore him u feel that perhaps there r other options that may help u and who would he suggest u see? Of course, this all needs to b said in a manner that's comfortable for u but it can serve twould purposes, if he is able to help u, he will realize that your current treatment isn't helping and gives u an option of discussing other treatments and secondly, if he doesn't have other options for u, u can get some names of docs that could help and u r being honest about seeking additional medical treatment. So u can't b accused of "doctor shopping". Tell him about your stomach issues and why u feel your current treatment isn't working, give him a chance to change your treatment and b clear that your current treatment isn't working. Being up front and honest is always your best approach. For any medical condition that u didn't agree with how u r being treated, u would ask for a second opinion. Pain management is no different.

Guys, I need your prayers and support. During my last hospitalization, two masses we're found in my breasts. Although I had told my previous doc about them, he said they were cysts and nothing to b concerned about. Apparently, he was incorrect. I'm having testing done the end of this month. I'm pretty tough, tell me what the issue is and I will deal with it but this hurry up and wait is driving me nuts. They discussed the issue while I was in the hospital and it seemed to b not a big deal. Then I got a phone call literally one minute before my doc's office was to close before Mother's Day weekend, leaving me a message to call them asap. Of course I called back and no one was there. I called first thing on monday, all they would tell me was that my doc wanted to c me, again asap. The scheduled me yesterday at 3:15, now 5 days after the initial call. Only to b told I needed to schedule this testing, which they won't do without my previous testing in hand. Basically three weeks of waiting that could b nothing. I'm perfectly fine with whatever I have to deal with, we'll not fine but I will deal with whatever I have to deal with but this hurry up and wait is driving me nuts. Especially since it's putting my other two surgeries I need to have done and waited a year to get scheduled be put on the back burner. I have worked so hard to get this path to wellness put in place, only to have it destroyed by this. I'm frustrated, disappointed, scared and ready to cry at a drop of a pin because of this. Just seems that the "healthier" I get, finally have my pain issues r in check and I can finally live, all this other cap keeps knocking me down. Those of u who know me, know I'm always upbeat, keep your chin up and strong, know this isn't me. I don't typically complain about the cards I've been dealt but focus on what we can do to fix them. Between looking forward to finally having my last two surgeries scheduled and finally being on a path to wellness being destroyed and now this, I'm really down. Any words or thoughts to help me c the forest through the trees would help and I feel especially guilty even complaining when Fuzzy's family is in such pain. As u guys know, I'm usually the tough one but Superwoman's cape is torn.
