Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 115)
(Newest replies first)

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

I know things may be posted re doctors, etc. I needed to be MORE specific. Finding Medicare docs who take new patients since affordable care has taken place is a problem with elderly or disabled who do not get more than the premium paid. I only found one. Another one asked what pain meds I was taking. This shows unwillingness to.prescribe pain meds like vicodin or stronger.

I am sorry you must deal with such pain. Blame it on the feds and ibozocare. So many drug seekers make it hard for people who need meds. I stopped going to docs in 2007. I recently found a bony growth on my collarbone and he ordered xray. He said we will watch it. Not comfy with that and need it addressed because of cancer in family. Sister died age 34 of cancer and they could not find origin of it. I need to push the envelope. I need prednisone for lung problems and also codeine helps break it up. My doc used to give me shirt burst of prednisone for lung, vicodin for pain of other condition and even wrote in my record I was not a drug seeker. I use meds cautiously and always had leftovers from previous prescriptions. I am again lookng for another doctor in Denver.

Lucy, do you have Wendy's email, fb, phone #? I'll search my phone for her info, I'm not sure I have it, but let's work together to see? If you don't have my contact information Susie has it or go thru admin and I'll reply for sure! Worry is bad for our health and Wendy might need us!

For all new comers please take a moment and scroll back through posts. You'll find names of doctors, clinics, and answers to questions you didn't even know you had.

From there if your post is short and sweet some of us may ask for more information on order to get you better info. Also, please check back after posting as people come around at weird times, but they do come to help if they have something to add to anything posted.
We (group correct me if I'm wrong or missing anything) are generally careful to get an understanding of what's going on before we throw out names of doctors or clinics that aren't already posted. The reason for this is that we've lost a member from use of that which we seek. We aren't professionals so information about the situation helps avoid offering useless advice. Plus some people will take advantage of the information and overrun a clinic that may not even do PM or are truly doctor shopping. We don't want to contribute to abuse.

Point is an ounce of precaution has immeasurable value.

So please scroll back, ask questions, share your experience with your past and current situation ...if you don't mind. This is totally anonymous unless you take several steps through admin to change that (very rare). This way we're not shooting blind, and we're not offering pamphlets at your door lol.

We are here to support each other in this chaos they call pain management. It can take up to a couple weeks for a regular contributor to post, but we do check back. Also if your post gets reviewed we were told it can take 24 hours (maybe a bit more) to be reviewed and posted. The admins will post everything in correct chronological order, but posts could look funky for a while. As the *note says above this text box, be detailed. No one will ask you to save oxygen, promise!

Hope everyone is feeling well and can enjoy Memorial Day.

Brandon, if you scroll down you'll see my reply to Tracy...it's the same reply I'd give you.

Is there a reason you're looking for a new Dr? There are several posts about the dos and don't when seeking a 2nd opinion / new pain management program. I see you're on methadone, what's the other med? Are they not working? Methadone did nothing but constipate me. Have you shared with your Dr your concern?
Outside of the names listed as you read back there may be someone who is a better fit, but with out a feel for what's going on we can't really say.

Janey, I dont receive notifications so I try to check in every few days. I read your latest news and I was floored. One thing for sure, you are one tough cookie and a beacon of light for everyone that reads your posts. You're very knowledgeable, thoughtful, and considerate in your replies to everyone here. You have chosen the right course of action. Stay busy and keep the focus on others until you have the information you need to tackle this head on. I do have a few suggestions that helped me cope when the going got tough (no need for the gory details). One avenue of hope and humor I found was YouTube believe it or not. In particular, I was looking for videos on "self healing" hypnosis. With that search I found self hypnosis videos for (I recommend Michael Sealey) anything from relaxation, sleeping troubles, chakra balancing to overcoming fears and discovering astral projection. What it did do and still does for me is help me find my center on the bad days or in the tough times. I also ran across some amazing videos that I could hardly believe but were in fact very real. One that still stays with me is this woman that had a large tumor that exhausted all possibilities thru western medicine. She went to India and had a renowned surgeon perform a healing session on her. This healing session involved 5/6 medical personnel concentrating their energies on her tumor. I guess a better description is to say they focused entirely on her healthy state of being. Within 3 minutes it showed the tumor shrink until it was completely gone. I dont recall if it was Reiki therapy or some other form of prayer but still nothing short of miraculous. There's also a place in CA called the Heartmap Institute that you can access online. They have all sorts of information on wellbeing that may be beneficial right now. I'm a member so if there's something of interest to you in the members only category let me know and I will provide you my login n password. I think meditation is under rated especially when it comes to self healing. I believe that human beings can do a lot more for themselves and each other than we're led to believe. It's a matter of faith in ourselves and faith in the Good Lord or higher power, whatever one believes. But I find it curious we use less than 10% of these big brains we're blessed with. It's not a design flaw. We're made to do so much more than we're led to believe or were ever taught. I'm pulling for you that you receive great news and that you're perfect health as far as your Tata's are concerned ;-) All will be well.

PS
I'm told (unanimously) that weening off is easy until you get to 1mg or less. I'm told the last bit is horrible.

The other option is going cold and waiting 36 hours and then starting opioids. The cold turkey I'm told makes opiate or meth withdrawal seem like a day at the park and it last well over 30 days if you don't start a different treatment.

Additionally, I'll say that my receptors are so full that even if I wanted a drink and my Dr okd it...no buzz in fact just makes you feel like crap. On opiates, other meds worked well, on suboxone its a one med deal for the most part. You may have to adjust other meds after your suboxone levels out. I did.

****
That said I have never mixed meds and alcohol and I urge anyone who wants to...DON'T. One drink and one pill can and does kill.

Janey, thank you for the update. If you want company you say the word. I crochet too. I'm free whenever. I don't have your info but one of the ladies can share or admin.

Tracey, the OP is no longer with us, but the group formed here will be in and out to answer. Keep checking back.
You'll want to start by scrolling back. You'll find at least 10 names of doctors and/or clinics. I think I'm the only one on suboxone right now, I believe another member may start soon.
In my particular case I have rheumatoid disease and then several sub-autoimmune conditions. My body doesn't respond to treatment (or hasn't after 6 years) and there is no cure. I went on suboxone 8/13 as I felt like I needed to get off opiates to guage my real pain level. I didn't want suboxone, but rather real withdrawal at detox with the help of clonadine and so I was near medical help. Unfortunately despite knowing that my issue had zero abuse issues the still put me on it. It does help my pain and so my Dr kept me on it. I don't really care for it. Outside of the taste, it took 6 months to get my mind around my mind. It seemed to make me impulsive and high strung. To know me...I'm often accused of apathy because I am that laid back irl. Plus if I have breakthrough pain there isn't much to choose from. I found ritalin helped but after a few doctors retiring I've been left with no source since it's way off label. So my goal is to ween off suboxone this summer. I will likely have to have surgeries due to RA damage given that I'm 37 and only 6 years into this so the less meds I'm on the better I can recover from repairs.
Depending on your situation, that might change the dr one would suggest. Why are you looking for a different Dr? Be sure that you are clear and concise with the current Dr or you could find yourself labeled Dr shopping. You can read about our suggestions when looking for a new Dr. a couple pages back (we say this a lot lol) Is there a reason you'd go for suboxone? Janey had posted a lot of info about it a couple pages back. What part of town? This is anonymous (unless you choose otherwise) so please fill us in, that way we can offer better info. Not all docs are created equal, nor are we lol.

hi there I'm in the same situation I wondered if you ever found a doctor in Colorado to increase your meds or if you would ever tried to go onsuboxone to try to wean yourself off? I'm trying to find a new doctor and I'm not sure which route to take thank you for any of your help you may be able to provide

JaneyGirl
I know it's hard when you have so much going on, but please keep us as updated as you can. Please let someone at your house know to keep us informed if you feel too ill. We are all so concerned. We are all hurting with you. The hurry up and wait is driving all of us nuts!!
You have always been a loving and wonderful part of Medschat. You are so knowledgeable and have always shared that with all of us.
I am a believer and am also a person who prays. I do most of my praying when things are going well, with lots of thank you. I save the asking prayers for the serious stuff, I've always thought that the less I ask for, the more likely I am to receive it. I'm using some of that asking for you now :) I hope it helps.
You are in everyone's thoughts daily. If there's anything any of us can do for you, please do not hesitate to let us know. Love.

Hi Guys!

I want to thank all of u for your love and support. I'm not sure why but I didn't get any notifications the last few days. I sure wasn't ignoring u guys, for u all r my heart and support right now.
It's been really busy. Appointments with surgeons, lab work, I feel like I've been doing nothing but allowing doc's control my life, which I don't like. It's like when I first was injured. I allowed doc appointments, therapy and such to run my life than the two toddlers I had. I put a stop to that but not until after 5 years. I'm not going to allow that to happen again. I think u find health in living. I won't allow it any other way.
Although the BIG appointment isn't until the 27th and I made a choice last week. I'm going to most probably not have answers until a week after that. I'm keeping myself busy and concentrating on things I can control. The appointment is so late because they have to collect precious studies, obtain labwork that gives indications of what we r dealing with and such. So I'm helping a neighbor paint furniture, crocheting another neighbor a baby blanket for her first to b born in June and crocheting a shrug for my sister in law that's having a bone marrow transplant. I've worked in the yard. Painted steps. Did spring cleaning inside and out. Obviously, I've decided fighting them wasn't going to make my hurry up and wait wasn't going to b productive.I've gone through a ton, yet prior to this I've felt well. I'm not going to change this. We all make choices and I'm hurting as we speak, it doesn't stop me, I'm not about to let this stop me. I feel blessed to have all of u guys, something I haven't had before, now I know I may just end up rocking this whole thing. Bless all of u! I'll keep u up to date! And I'm here for all of u!

Janey, I am very sorry for what you are dealing with. I'm having a whole issue with the prayer thing and my faith right now, but I will say a prayer that your end result is nothing more than a nonreactive cyst. You have so many medical problems yet you come on here and you are cheerful and welcoming to all. You willingly give out information on Drs, clinics and treatment time and again when someone asks. You are truly a gem in what can be a very frustratingly painful day. You have more patience than I, as I would've been throwing a fit with the Dr. about waiting to have a scan. I hope your other surgeries can be rescheduled quickly for you, so you may continue on your path to healing. Hang in there, you are one tough cookie. Please contact me if there is anything I can do to help you!

William... I only found out through FB, and from what I understood, he didn't wake up one day. He did have health problems... And someone mentioned his heart, but that's just hearsay.
