my condition is that i have vascular necrosis, osteoporosis, and crohns disease. i have had both hips replaced, i have chronic pain and can not get a pcp due to medical history. i am told that i have a complex dx and need to look elsewhere. i have been to several pain management clinics and have been tpld that they only do intraventional therapy with nerve blocks, etc. and this type of treatment would not benefit me, that i need long term pain medicine pain management. and no one is willing to help me find such a doctor. i am 39 yo and since 2005 i have had 18 surgeries, bowel resection and joint replacement. i live near jonesboro, ar. but i am willing to travel as far as neesed. please help me.

Hello Country Chick! I read your post regarding pain management in NW Arkansas. I live in Mountain Home AR (north-central AR) & my driver is willing to take me as far as necessary to find pain relief. I am 63 yo & have had 2 lumbar surgeries & one C-spine surgery, none of which has worked. I moved to Mountain Home from California a year ago to be with my sister (and best friend). Three months after my last lumbar surgery (in California) I was doing great thanks to meds that controlled my pain & an excellent physical therapist. Since I moved to Arkansas & ran out of my California meds, I haven't been able to find a good pain management doctor. There is only one doctor here and he treats me like I'm a drug addict despite the fact that I have all my medical & surgery records, MRI & X-ray films, and my original med containers from California. He is rude & abusive...I have never experienced anything like this before! I am in chronic, agonizing pain & am unable to walk or function in any meaningful way. The only time I leave the house is for doctor appts. I was taking MSContin, Soma and oxycodone for "breakthrough" pain. I sometimes think of suicide just to get away from the pain. If you could help me with some doctors' names I would greatly appreciate it. You would be saving my life! Thank you in advance. Calgirl

Hello community: I wrote yesterday and got back this morning good information. Vicoprofen and it's elimination process sounds just great for my need. I will start a search for a doctor near Little Rock Arkansas area who will see me as a patient in need of this drug. In the mean time any natural remedys for pain that is liver friendly would be much appreciated. Have a good-day, community.

What part of Arkansas are y'all located? It's almost impossible to find a good pain management doctor here. There is a few good ones in northwest Arkansas. The biggest thing is you need a referral to see any pain doctor and trying to find a Pcp that will refer you is hard. I would share names of doctors but I'm a little sceptic as this is the first time I've ever responded.

I've done more research. Lord help us. The doctors also. First what needs to be done is go to the state relentlessly. Kind of like the pain you're feeling. My wife tells me that I'm just stupid for staying with this, I'm not though. I think about what I go through day in and day out and think that's just me. They will tell you that our region is highest in pain meds per capital. Think, we have no unions to lighten our load we are in the heart of the hardest working places in America. Wow, they made something that would help us through our days of agony. Then, take it away. I've been somewhat bedridden for 5 days. PT, trying to get my leg back. They don't care. This all stems from a know-nothing Arkansas board. A company years back of whom lost track- they really didn't- but, they had no records of where certain amount went. A large amount. Well to reboot, kill them all. Therefore the folks who really need them will find them elsewhere on their dime, not the state or the country. Once they have depleted the streets then they have control again. Yet, don't they know they have no control over the illegal, it's the legal they can kick around. We care wether or not we have felonies on our records. We want to do right. They have just found out what it is to have control over something. They've never had it before. They don't want to let go. Truth, if some people were so inclined, they could get a ticket to canada, go visit their doctors and return with a 3 month prescription. There's a little more to it than that but, not much. The problem is control. If that someone did so, they would have control over something. Then greed kicks in. Instead of helping, they hinder. Because instead of being human, they start selling them for 30-50 dollars a piece. Depends on how bad you are hurting. I'm glad to say I don't have the heart for that. In a world where you hurt a dog, you're a felon. You hurt a human? We have souls, families, children we'd like to entertain and enjoy their company while they are ours. Instead, a lot of times we stare at 4 walls, in depression, thinking, my wife doesn't deserve this, my children don't deserve this. Hey, daddy will you go outside and play ball with me? Answer: I'd love to buddy but I'm hurting right now. A few times it's gonna happen. Every time he asks, just to play ball with his dad, a broken hearted child, a failure feeling dad. It doesn't just affect the person hurting! I'd like to hate them for that. It's not in me to hate. I wish they felt like me sometimes, that's bad though, I shouldn't wish this on anyone! I just pray that something happens. Someone who's not a yes man-woman, doesn't matter to stand up for us less fortunate in health. I wish you all the best, may god ease all of your pain, and please don't let this harden any hearts. Just know what needs to be done.

Arkansas pain management is a scam. The doctor wants to only do injections. No meds. I was referred to him, I have blue cross. He tried to get me to let him do injections for my degenerative disc disease. Insurance will not cover. Cost me $1400 to start plus on going billing. Now, have to find another doc, I just want my meds. Wish there was a good pain doctor in Hot Springs, but, there is not.

IN CONSTANT PAIN: I don't know where u live, but I live in Mountain Home AR & saw Dr. Larson for 3 nightmarish years in Batesville. You're right...he's the worst, along with Dr. Chatman in Mtn. Home. They are both quacks... rude, condescending, know nothing about pain management, consider everyone drug addicts, lie, cheat (I was double-billed by Chatman on my 1st visit & then he also billed Medicare...of course I've turned him in for that along with outrageous verbal abuse & writing fraudulent RX's). They make their money on giving injections & if u don't go along it pisses them off. Every time I saw Larson he'd say "I can give u a shot for that." I'm looking for someone new (my psychiatrist has suggested a few) & I'll keep you all updated but don't hold ur breath. I've been looking for a decent pm doctor here for 4-1/2 yrs. This is one medieval state. I came to Arkansas from California where all my doctors were kind, compassionate, knowledgeable and worked as a team for my benefit. It was an awesome patient-centered, evidence-based partnership where my voice was always included & actually listened to. And u wonder why Arkansas is 48th in the nation when it comes to healthcare!!! Good luck to all...

I find it horrible in America where you can buy alcohol as much as needed. But, when you've been put into a category where pain runs your day and you refuse to be put on disability but, due to FDA restrictions I can't get the pain medication to get me through my work day.

Tell me about Chatman please. I need to get a pain management Dr. The family doctor I have is thrilled every time he can turn my Vicodin script down. I have chronic knee pain ,and multi level DG of L5 that is causing near constant back pain. My feet are numb most of the time. And now my neck is starting to feel the same way. We don't even have a spine dr in mountain home ar. I am hoping a good pain dr can refer me to a good spine dr and we can work together.

I see that Dr. Casallis is one of the Dr.'s on your list. THE IS A METHADONE CLINIC! NOT A PAIN CLINIC! HE ONLY PRESCRIBES METHADONE AND SUBOXONE! VERY, VERY EXPENSIVE. Took $460 a month from me for 15 yrs. Not a good place to go.

Since my last message, I've done research and also emailed the CDC and DEA. Both returned emails saying they weren't calling on doctors to kill us. They said that they were here to help detour new patients and doctor shoppers etc. that the limititations were suggestive. Now, either what they are returning to me is an email to indirectly point the finger other ways or they have a different set of regulations they sent the doctor. Cause I know my doctor and his face almost went white and changed subject when I said I have copies of emails directly to me saying what I've been saying. He looked almost scared. He knows me he knows my situation but, he is scared to prescribe.

The limitations may be "suggestive" from the CDC and the DEA but I've been to the medical board meetings and I've seen the medical board use these "suggestive" dosages as the new guidelines. Physicians are being hauled up to the board by the truck loads because now that the Arkansas Prescription Monitoring Program records every controlled prescription the can see with the click of a mouse who is prescribing what. So I would caution you of falling victim to the language the CDC and or DEA uses as they know exactly what they are doing. Like everything else in life the bad ones screw it up for the good ones and their is a war on drugs because of the overprescribing of pain medication and these "suggestive" guidelines the CDC recently handed down are anything but suggestive as the power trippers at the medical board use them as the gospel when going after physicians. I know because I've seen it time and time again. Some of the physicians deserve to be hauled up but many are innocent physicians trying to offer relief to their patients and are included in a witch hunt to scare physicians away from prescribing pain medication. The medical board wants the CDC Guidelines followed and if you don't believe me go to a medical board meeting or better yet get the minutes from the pain management board and see what the leader of that board says consistently and then you will see the reality of the situation
