There is a huge difference between addiction and physical dependence. And Morphine is not the main ingredient in all Opiod pain medications. Only Morphine contains Morphine.
I feel your pain. It seems the pain management pendulum has swung the other way from a few years ago when one was told, "You deserve to be as pain free as is medically prudent". Most pain clinics will NOT prescribe opioids, They evaluate you and recommend to your primary care doc. If you are lucky enuff to find one who will prescribe, be honest and forward with your history. You are a potential criminal and I can understand the physicians don't want to put their license at risk. You will have to sign a narcotic agreement once a year. Read it carefully and request a copy. As usual those of us who need it the most DONT want to be on it, but quality of life is also an issue. We cant afford to reinvent the "wheel' every time we change doctors. Keep investigating new procedures in pain relief as most docs have 4000 patients and cannot keep you in mind, that's YOUR job. Everyone is different and to be shoved into a "addicted" slot just because you find them to give you the best relief is infuriating. Also if you need narcotics you are "physically dependent", if you just like the feeling then you are addicted. If a health care professional calls you an addict and you are NOT do not just accept that label. Correct them and do NOT back down. Good Luck and write your congresspeople and complain and complain.
This unbelievable, people that are denied pain relief. We have human rights to that. The government has put doctors in fear. Treatment that I'm seeking is near impossible. My pain is easily managed with Norco. But the doctors want to have you take counseling, did that. Go to physical therapy, did that. Worthless. I am beginning to wonder if they want to make criminals of law abiding citizens. How are we supposed to get out meds? I told my doc that not everyone can come in every month to pick up their Rx. They are driving people to illicit drugs and street dealers. Is this on purpose? Do they want more suicides or arrests? It's totally wrong and immoral. We need a change in government. Do you get me?
Dr Balog's office moved to outer Southeast Portland. Look him up on Healthgrades and Vitals. I know I saw his new address and # on one of those sites. Good Luck.
I have to go to a methadone clinic for my pain medication. I am 32 and have had back surgery, but need another one. I also have p.t.s.d. I have tried everything and it's night and day when I am on benzos and when I am not. If people quit abusing them so bad. I live in Salem o.r the doctors hands are tied. The d.e.a won't let them prescribe s***. I could go on and on about this. I can't seem to find a doctor that will help me out. Salem clinic: Julie slind hule. She might help you.
Arizona has criminalized pain. After fourteen major surgeries within ten years, I have been on a consistent dose of opioids for over five years. That dosage has been cut by two thirds. I have also been warned that ANY visit to the ER will be viewed as "drug seeking". I am a native of Portland, Oregon and (since unable to work/University Professor) am considering relocating back home. Any suggestions regarding clinics in the PDX area who "get it" and are willing to prescribe. I had not planned to retire for another twelve years. Thanks!
I agree 100%, and I fear it's only going to get worse. People who have chronic pain like us are forced to turn to street drugs to keep our quality of life. I wrote my congress woman, but it's not popular to be "pro-drug" for pain relief. I think seeking counseling to handle pain makes no sense.
I cant get my dr to give the referral. Ive never messed up on a pain contract and have dual diagnosis...and he gave me tylenol after 10 years off and on of small dose of norco making my life actually pleasurable...now jus tylenol...he said there is nothing else he can do for me.. And i said have nice then...no need for a follow up cause u arent investegation the problem or treating its symptoms..how are u so wealthy if you dont do yourjob at all...how does he sleep comfortable and not feel bad for not helping his patients
A new war on Chronic Pain has been started in Salem Oregon at Salem Hospital and Salem Health. Their new clinic does not follow the new CDC guidelines as they have their own agenda! I believe Salem Hospitals Pain Clinic is in large part profit driven. The care I received there was not patient focused. It is terrible that due to a bunch of drug addicts killing themselves that those who follow the rules are being punished. Salem Hospital has banned their Family Physicians from prescribing opioid pain medications. Chronic pain patients and their advocates need to start making a lot of noise in the media, at your doctor's and with lawmakers or we will continue to be marginalized.
Washington state treats people in pain like they are criminals along with a very ugly way they talk to you. They set up these little scams to collect money with pain clinics; they will drain you dry with no bank account left for most. They have Palliative Care that is make up the rules as they go. I looked up, on Google, 'Guidelines for Palliative Care' these people don't have a clue. Put you in a very small room you can't move in, with five or six of their staff every time you have to go to them which is every month and they go on an on about nothing over an over. Then they send you to a pain clinic that you have to go to every month. This is about 8 or 9 thousand a month for both forever payments. You have to beg for pain medication. This is Palliative care, can you believe it. It is suppose to be for very ill people. Stay away from Olympia or just stay away from Washington state if you are in pain. I get in so much pain I don't know what to do.
