Dilaudid Patch

Updated

At least i think its a Dilaudid patch maybe fentanyl, but my mother had or has an intestinal infection/block we havent really been able to get an exact diagnosis of but they originally had her on hydromorphone pills for the pain. Then she was over medicating herself accidentally(or so she said) and would end up sleeping for days straight, or doing all kinds of abnormal things like making huge messes, or throwing the rugs from the house in the front yard. then wouldnt remember any of it. So they took off the pills and gave her patches. Today i went to her house and she wouldnt answer the door or phone so i went to my sister work and got her house key. when i got into the house i knocked on her bedroom door and her dogs went crazy but she didnt answer so i tried to open the door but, it was locked so I pounded harder, still no answer then just as I was getting ready to kick the door in she opened the door in a daze. when i asked what was wrong she said nothing she was just tired but was nodding out while i was talking to her. So i let her sleep, but i noticed the whole time she was sleeping she couldnt stop moving her legs and moaning, i also noticed she had 2 patches on. She later admitted to taking the pills as well. When i asked for her dr.s phone # she freaked out on me. She's had hep c treatment twice, and is a ex herion addict. She's also taking trazodone. She the only mom i have and im afraid she's not going to be around much longer if this continues. So my Question is: is there any reason she should of had 2 patches on? and should she be taking the pills too? Or is she getting addicted to them?

There is no Dilaudid patch, that is only available in tablet or injectable form. So, it has to be the Fentayl patches and no, she should not have 2 of them on at the same time. Fentanyl is a very potent narcotic, it is over 80 times stronger than Morphine.

Since she used to have an addiction problem, that means she is prone to such a thing happening, again.

The Trazodone is an antidepressant, so it wouldn't cause abusive/addictive tendencies, but since drowsiness can be a side effect, it is often used, when someone has trouble sleeping.

You can learn more about both medications here:

If she is using multiple patches at once, it could result in an overdose, that would possibly be fatal. Have you contacted her doctor, yet?

My name is April. I'm 34 and suffer from severe fibromualga and too many back problems to list. For the last 7 years I have been on percocet, oxycontin, ketamin cream, vicodin & codeine, and last month tried fentanyl patches... It was horrible. I am allergic to morphine and my only option left is dilaudid. Do they make a patch?
