Suboxone saved my life too. But, the bad thing about it is if u don't have insurace, u can't afford it. I would recommend it to anyone who can afford it, though. I am a nurse, and the suboxone keeps me out of alot of trouble.

u have to be tappered off of it. Just be careful with relapse. I think it's so sad that u can't get it just bacause of money. Good Luck!

U have to look at it like this: Would u rather be addicted to Suboxone or constanlty worry about getting your next fix. I tried coming off suboxone and all i could think about was getting high. So please, stay with it.

I was on suboxone I had to go to the clinic twice a month for 5 months then once a month for 2 months. You don't get a high from subs and I had little to no cravings at all through out the process. They give u strips that disolve under your tongue so you can't shoot it if you wanted to. If you are really serious about getting clean subs are the best way while I was on the subs it gave me time to get into the 12 step program, get a sponsor, and be on my way to recovery. After I had a pretty good foundation in recovery the doctor then started tapering me, and I barely had any withdraws at all the most I had was the first two days I didn't have a lot energy I yawned a lot. Other than that nothing at all it was the best decision I could of made. I have now been sober for a year an a half and still attending meetings and talkin to my sponsor. Just remember it's one day at all time. You got to focus on today being sober and not tomorrow or next week or next year just for today! my friend took methadone to try to get clean but ended up addicted and had severe withdraws. I only recommend methadone to those still not ready to get clean and stop getting high!

The real difference between suboxone and methadone is that suboxone has an opiate blocker in it. If you are truely serious about getting clean off of opiates, then then why would you have to use methadone or suboxone for more than a week? IF you are using it for more than a week, then you are just replacing one drug for another. Suboxone and methadone are only the first steps to getting clean off of opiates. After the physical withdrawls are gone with the help of subox and methadone, which is actually the easy part, then its time to deal with the mental part-the reason you were abusing drugs in the first place, which is the hardest part in staying clean. go to meetings, get a sponsor, and live your life drug free.
p.s.- i love dr. drew. and on one of the episodes when mike starr was on the show, mike was off of the suboxone and had to perform his first show clean. He begged Dr. Drew to give him a suboxone cuz he said he wouldnt be able to perform without it, when dr. drew knew that he only wanted it to get a little buzz before his performance. dr. drew didnt give it to him and mike felt completely relieved after the show doing it drug free. just a little example of how addicts are =) good luck to you all

I was on methadone for 10 years 105mgs and decided if was time to try and get off, so I checked into a 30 day rehab and they switched me to subutex and then suboxone, I 've been home for 2months now and it's been hell! I still have withdrawals every day and I'm about ready to just go back to methadone, was curious how many days should I be off the suboxone before I can start the methadone again.I hope someone has some info or maybe some advice!

I have been on Methadone for on and off for 7 years and solid for the last 3 years. I have been clean from Heroin for 3 years and I know in my heart I will never get off methadone. I do not have to go into the clinic everyday. I am on a monthly prescription through the same clinic I had to go to every single day for the beginning of sobriety. Now my little brother is addicted to Oxys and we are trying to decide what to do for him. I will NOT allow him to end up on Methadone. It saved my life but now I am a slave to the drug. I am always going to have to have it or I will be sick. I am really interested in the Suboxen Treatment for my little brother and I appreciate and info about people on Suboxen.

Oh yeah.....My dose on Methadone that finally held me is 190 milligrams. So Suboxen is not going to be an option for me. But I think that when someone is coming off Oxy's or other pain meds....then Suboxen and NOT Methadone is a better choice. If you are shooting up heroin like I was then Methadone may be your best bet.....but plan on being stuck on that drug for a very long time.

Ashley7~ I don't think you have ever taken either of the medications...so really telling people that they are "not serious" about getting clean if they stay on Suboxone or Methadone for more than a week makes you sound like you have no idea what your talking about. I think that "if your really serious" about getting clean, then go to a professional.... a treatment center or Doctor...Do not listen to people that just spout off opinions. Every person is different. A Doctor or other Medical Professional will be able to help you out. I have been clean for 3 years. For some people to really succeed at sobriety, it takes more than counseling.

Methadone is 100% the way to go! Sub is for more of a lightly (maybe for a nasty vicodin addiction or percocet) opiate addiction & one that has not been going on for 6months-year. Now Subutex has no Narcan added to it, but i've heard Sub creates Depression. I'm on 140 mg.'s of methadone, & i wish i hadn't gotten to such a high dose, but methadone seems to work best.

FYI, back surgery works for maybe 40-50% of ppl. you are kind of stuck between a hard rock and another because you need meds to help with back issues...the pain makes me an invalid . my insurance changed, and i have to go to a particular clinic and after 8 years being on a painmed, they switch me to tramadol, which doesnt help with my pain at all. its been a living hell!
good luck!

I made the transition and it wasn't that bad at all. But I was only on 85mg before I started on a slow taper. I got down to 25 and then went 48 hrs without anything before taking suboxone. It was pretty smooth after taking the suboxone for a few days. I felt fine other then headaches but after a month those went away. Good luck.

Unless you have been on them both u have zero credibility. I was on m.done 9 years and it was bell on earth. Suboxone helped me get my life back. Been on it 3 yrs. No wrecks or law trouble. So u probably should shut it face.

I am currently tapering off methadone..ive been on for years. I am lowered 10 mg every other week. I'm currently all the way down to 50mg!!! Everyone said it would be soo hard...but it wasnt hard at all. Just keep your eye on the prize--being maintenance free--also helped me to keep busy and nap in the afternoon so I could make it all day. It truly IS possible. I am stil headed down. My goal is zero. I pray everyday too, God will help you to get through anything--just ask Him.

Suboxone works great for me and I have no cravings and I don't get high. But tried to quit on my own and got very sick immediately. Don't want to be dependant on any drug so of course I am worried

Methadone has a blocker in it.it is great for someone who still wants to use.because if u use you will not feel it. Methadone side effects are BAD sweating. Suboxone is for less addicted and more READY to quit-more trust worthy of taking it as directed.

All you have to do is ask for what's called a 'Blind Taper'. This means exactly what it sounds like: They taper you at a level UNKNOWN to you (so 4get your 5mg a week suggestion, bc if you know what your # is, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to do the math in your head even if THEY aren't telling you where you're at). Tell them what you want to achieve & have them work it out for you, that way you have NO IDEA where you are at ANY GIVEN TIME. Believe me, it works. One BIG reason is bc SOO much of how you feel is in your MIND! Think about how sick you made yourself when you were using & knew you didn't take the same amount of whatever you took the day b4 - you mentally withdraw. If you choose to blind dose, b4 you know it, you walk up to dose and they say 'your done'! It's easier to NOT KNOW what dose you are at. You may think you're at 80mg & really at 25mg...give it a try - whatcha got to lose? Hope it works out for ya.
