I'm taking bactrim for a UTI. It turns out to be bacterial vaginosis. How long should I wait before starting the Flagyl? ## Hi Lou Lou, Sorry to hear about the bacterial vaginosis. When it comes to switching between different prescriptions I would always encourage you to contact your prescribing doctor and/or the pharmacist who filled it first, for specific and safe dosing instructions. However I do know that when I've taken antibiotics in the past and one didn't work as intended, I was instructed to switch over to a different antibiotic within a day's time. Again, this is just my experience. Your doctor may recommend a different wait time, but in my own opinion I'm not sure that it matters too much as long as they're not being taken back to back and overloading ...

I have a long history of sinusitus and MD has given me antibiotics to use. After 3 days with 1 cephalexin 100 mg p/day. Would swithcing to cephalexin 500 mgs 4x p day get faster results??? Is it a problem stopping one and starting another?? ## Switching can create the risk of your developing C. Difficile, so you should take the one your doctor has prescribed for you. The general rule with antibiotics is that if they are working, you shouldn't see any worsening after taking them for a full 24 hours, and you should see some improvement after taking them for a full 3 days. Has there been any change, yet? The FDA warns that this typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, and non-allergic skin rash.
