I see one side affect is trouble sleeping, so wondering if that can be avoided by when i take it. Also he has me taking it for 14 days at the same dose. I read you need to slowly go off this drug. Is that true for 14 days? ## Hello, Sue! How are you? Taking them in the morning is usually best, to try to minimize the insomnia and restlessness at night. Have been given a 4 tablets daily for 5 days for server bug bites. Should I take them as stated or reduce after 2 days so it would be 3 on 3rd day 2 on 4th day then 1 for the remainder of the pills. I hear these should be tapped off or maybe not for just a 5 day period. ## Hello, Linda! How are you? No, they only need to be tapered if taken in high doses for over 21 days. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, insomnia, nervousness, acne and fluid retention. Is there anything else I can help with?

My dosage is 4x5mg daily for 5 days then 3 for 3 days then 2 daily for 3 days then 1 tablet daily for 3 days then stop My question is ! On the daily dosage for example 4 tablets per day do they have to be taken altogether or do you space them out over the day ## Hello, Alan! How are you? They can be taken either way, depending on what works best for you. Some people prefer to split them up to try to minimize the side effects. My prescription states: "Take 1 tablet by mouth once daily in the morning as needed." Does this mean that I take it (I have 30 tablets) until the pain/stiffness subsides and then quit? ## Hello, LeTigre! How are you? Yes, that is what that directive would mean. It is sometimes prescribed that way, for instance my mother-in-law takes it in a similar way for her allergies/asthma, after years of dealing with it, she knows that it usually only takes 5 days of taking it to knock her symptoms out. However, if you're unsure, consult your prescriber or pharmacist. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness, insomnia and acne. So if you're still unable to determine whether the cause is stress or medication related, it would still be wise to contact your doctor in the meantime just to play it safe. He/she may then suggest that you stop taking the medication until further notice. Need help with tablet count for prescription. I'm a student and I have to calculate the number of tablets needed to fill the rx. Prescription reads Prednisone 10MG # QS. The SIG is: 30mg bid x 2d 25mg bid x 2d 20mg bid x 2d 15mg bid x 2d 10mg qd x 2d 5mg qd x 2d (then stop) I also need help with writing the patient label based on this rx ... Thank you. Alan ## Hi Alan, I'm not quite familiar with your method for calculating the number of pills. Is there a type of formula you are following to get where you are? It's definitely something that one would consider to be as simple as putting the right number of pills into the right container, but I can see that it is much more than just that. Below are a couple of sites that I thought could be of help to you when calculating or co...

86 year old woman been prescribed 8 x 5mg tablets a day for a week can they be evened out over the day or do they have to be taken in one go ## Hi, Lyn! If her doctor didn't specify otherwise, she should be able to split them up throughout the day. Many times people are just told to take them all at once to make sure they don't forget to take the next dose later. It's been proven through medication compliance testing that people will usually remember to take one dose, but subsequent ones are typically forgotten. It may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings and fluid retention. Learn more Prednisone details here. Is there anything else I can help with?

My sister dropped a bottle of prednisone 5mg, she counted the pill and believes there are 2 pills missing, but is not sure. My 2-year-old was near her and we don't know if she swallowed one or not. What can I give her to ensure safety? ## Hello, Kelly! How is your daughter? Did she experience any adverse effects? Any time you are concerned about the health, welfare and life of a child, you should consult emergency services. Taking too much of this medication could result in overdose conditions, according to FDA reports, which might include elevated blood pressure, and heart rate, either of which could cause possibly fatal issues.

Can you taper prednisolone.. 30mg/day for a week by 10mg/day each week after without side effects or is it best to go from 30 to 20 to 10 to 5mg? ## Hello, Jacko! How are you? How has your doctor directed you to taper it? Sometimes, if you've been taking it for less than 3 weeks, tapering isn't necessary. Usually, however, when it is tapered, it is done by 10mg increments, but not for a week each, in most cases, it's usually just a couple of days. But you need to follow your doctor's instructions, they are the final decider as to what is safest for you. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this steroid as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness, insomnia, weight gain, fluid retention and acne.

I have been put on Augmentin, Klarithran 500mg for a ten day period and have to take them twice a day. Was also give Prednisone 5mg (starting with 8 tabs per day). I accidently took them twice a day. Feeling nauseous, very dizzy and fainted this morning and seemed to have a mild seizure. Could this be from the Prednisone or the antibiotics? ## Hello, Jo! How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? It is difficult to say for sure which one cause it, since it is a possibility from all 3 of them, according to the NIH. However, it is a situation that could become dangerous, if left unchecked, so you need to contact your doctor immediately, or seek emergency medical attention.

I was recently put on a high dosage (50mg) of Prednisone a day. I was to stay on this dosage for three days, then cut it in half for three days, and then repeat until I was, by the fifteenth day, completely off the medication. Unfortunately, when my doctor prescribed me Prednisone, she momentarily forgot about psych history. On the fifth day of me taking Prednisone, I had a psychosis episode, and came to the realisation that my chaotic moods, and the sudden extreme bouts of depression and lack of concentration, had been a side effect of the medication. After speaking with my doctor, we dropped the dosage right down to 5mg and I was on that for four days before stopping completely, which was five days ago. The problem is, my moods are still not back to normal, and neither is my ability t...

Opites make my BP drop 80/50. I am on Fentanyl Patch 25mcg and feel very dizzy & sleepy. Think my BP is dropping dangerously, i have had lots of fluids & hung upside down off the bed. I am very sweaty. Think i need to up my dose of Prednisone but dont know by how much. Can u pls help me. ## Hello, Cathy! How are feeling? Those could also be just side effects from the Fentanyl patch, which might be why the extra fluids didn't help. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Do you have a blood pressure monitor to check with, when this happens? ## Dear Verwon, thank you for your help. I think you are right that it is the Fentanyl. I will invest in a Blo...

My dermatologist prescribed me 12 tabs of prednisone at 5mg for the first 5 days, then 8 tabs at 5mg for 5days, then 4 tabs at 5mg for 5 days, then 2 tabs at 5mg for 5 days, then 1 tab at 5mg for 5 days, then 0.5mg for 5 days, then stop. Should I be worried about the high dosage in the beginning of my dosage? Please Help? ## Hello, Yvonne! How are you? For some conditions that is how it's done, a high dose for awhile, which is then slowly tapered, so yes, this is normal. It is the tapering that is important, if you're on it for more than 5 days. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you :) ## I'm not a doctor, but I'll second the point regarding tapering. I was on a dose of 40mg 1 day, then 20 mg 6 days, then stop and I had some major side effects after I stop...

My doctor started me on apo-prednisone 5mg for a rash all over my body and scalp. My plan is to start with 10 pills then taper by one pill every second day down to zero! How many days should I actually be on these then if tapered properly? ## Hello, Sheryl! How are you doing? That would be a total of 10 days, on the 11th day, you should be out and not have any pills left to take. The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, fluid retention, acne, insomnia, nervousness, and elevated blood pressure. Hi, I am 25 and I have been on prednisone since I was 15 for an adrenal deficiency I have. I was taking a 5mg dose daily for 10 years and typically I should be on them for life but I have recently decided that the side effects outweigh the benefits and have come off them about 9 weeks ago. The first week I did experience a horrible fever for a couple of days and could barely move. Now my symptoms (which I believe are due to the Prednisone withdrawals) consist of itchy rashes on my hands and feet, and also aches a pains everywhere! I wake up and everything seems to hurt from my feet to my neck. Are these symptoms due to coming off of the Prednisone and if so how long will the side effects take to subside? Thanks :) ## Hello, Monica! How are you? Did you come off of it abruptly, without a...
