Hey, So my partner started taking gabapentin 3x300mg 3 times a day for rheumatoid arthritis in his feet he's only 29. He recognized this drug as something his friends use to take recreationally and we all know it effects us all differently. I'm bipolar get a little bored and curious not to mention noticed a change in his mood just in general a happier person so I thought I'd start taking them too just for the effect. I soon became addicted to the feeling of not really caring almost superior, I felt I could talk my way out of any situation and just loved life. Of course there's always a time you run out and with us both taking them he soon did. With the pain of arthritis coming and going there was always plenty for me. I soon realized just how addicted I was and was the f...

Recently was prescribed Gabapentin 300 mg three times a day I took one pill and ended up sleeping and woke with red face n swollen red lips is this normal ? Plus took me about 24 hours to really feel normal again ? ## No, that is definitely not normal. You need to inform your doctor and try a different medication, the swelling indicates that you may be allergic to this one. As listed by the FDA, such allergic reactions typically get worse with repeated exposure, so please do not take any more of this medication. Its typical side effects are listed as possibly including dizziness, drowsiness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been taking gabapentin for almost 2 months now. My doctor gave it to me for migrain head aches, restless leg syndrome and anxiety. I take 300 mg at bedtime every night. About an hour after I wake up in the morning I'm very sick to my stomach which sometimes lasts all day long. I also can not keep my legs still. I bounce them all day. About 3 hours before I go to bed I get very irritated. Once I take my night dose it all goes away. Could this be from the gabapentin? I do also take sertraline 50 mg every morning for my anxiety. ## Hello, Sharrie! How are you feeling? I'm sorry about the problems you're having. It could actually be due to either medication, they've both been known to cause such side effects, as reported by the FDA. However, the restless legs is more ...

I was having difficulties with breathing and sleeping. My blood pressure has also been higher than normal. I guess that everyone is different and it affects everyone differently. I tapered off gabapentin two weeks ago but still feel stoned and have no get up n go. Lots of gas still as well. Is this normal and how long will it take to be lucid and energetic again? ## How long were you taking it, and how much were you taking each day? Did you taper off of it, or just stop it cold turkey? Those can be withdrawal effects of Gabapentin, according to FDA reports, along with rebound pain, rebound depression, and a risk of seizures if you stop cold turkey from high doses. Are you on any other medications? ## Took it for 2 1/2 months. 1200 mg for 1 1/2 months. 600 mg for two weeks then 300 mg for two weeks. Stopped after that. I'm also on 40 mg of Paxil. ## It took at least a month for me to feel normal after dumping Gabapentin. I weaned off of it slowly & I only...

Could I be rebounding from Gabapentin withdrawal or fibro pain getting worse? I was prescribed Lyrica because the pain has just gotten worse and worse with Gabapentin, and am now tapering off of Gabapentin. I've been on it 22 months. Was up to 2400 mg last fall, but the first of this year I tapered down to 1800 and have been at 1500 to 1800 a day since. My doctor told me to taper 300 mg every 2 days. I think that is probably too fast. I am now down to 900 (as of last night). My pain is even worse and I wonder if part of the pain is rebound effect. A few days before I saw my doctor my pain suddenly got much worse. But now it is even worse yet. I have gone from taking usual dose of 2 Vicodin 5/500 a day to taking 2 Vicodin at a time to get any relief at all. And still the relief is ab...

I have been taking gabapentin for one month for fibromyalgia... 500 mg a day...100 mg in the morning 100 mg in the afternoon and 300 mg at bedtime...I want to kniw if I wil have any withdrawal if I stop taking it. ## Hello, Jeannie! How are you? Yes, it is best to slowly taper it, rather than just stop abruptly. A sudden withdrawal may also create the risk of seizures. Has it been helping you? Have you experience any side effects? Why do you want to stop taking it? ## No but get ready for the pain, burning and neuropathy. I took it for 18mon. I have had fm for 5 years I'm not at a point I've been through all the prescribed drugs except narcartics, afraid of trading on problem for another. I just took my second dose of gabapentin 100 mgs this morning. I was also prescribed hydrocodone 10/325. Is it safe for me to take the hydrocodone if it has been eight hours ago since I took the gabapentin? I know it takes a long time for gabapentin to get out of your system and I can't be too safe when mixing medications. Thanks in advance to any help I get. ## It should be okay to take them together, if they have both been prescribed for you. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and mood changes. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Will I get the same level of pain relief from stopping norco 10-325 mg and starting 300 mg gabapentin? ## If it were me it wouldn't, but everyone's different. I am 71 years young. I have diabetes 2, schizoaffective disorder, osteoarthritis and cervical spinal stenosis as major illnesses. For all this I take 1000 mg of metformin twice daily, risperidone 1 mg, bubropion hcl XL 300 mg, lorazepam 0.5mg 3 to 4 times daily, 750 mg of nabumetone once to twice daily, 100 mg of tramadol 3 times daily, and 900 mg of gabapentin 3 times daily. I have pinched nerves in my neck and have had many procedures including a rhyzotomy for the pinched nerves and neck problems. I still get around fine, drive a car, and have job. I also drink one or two beers most days after work. The only problems I've ever had with the medicines was strong sedation the first two times I took gabapentin. After that it never happened again. I am now taking 7 x 300 gabapentin per day and am getting terrible eye problems: double and blurred vision, I am also sufering unnerving confusion, could it be a side effect of the gabapentin? ## It doesn't seem from the monograph listing, that these are common side effects: Gabepentin Side-Effect Info Click Here I would suggest you speak to your doctor and discuss this as soon as possible, it could be this drug, an illness, or a combo if you are taking something else. ## I get blurred vision with only 2 300 Mg's ## I have been taking 2400 mg (eight 300-mg tablets) a day of gabapentin for more than a year. I am trying to wean off of gabapentin, but the worst part is the itching, and the crazy restlessness at night. I’m taking one a day at 300 mg in the evening. By the time evening comes again the itching starts happening. How do I wean off this/300 mg a day, and is there anything I can take for the itching. I did start taking magnesium a couple days ago. I was on it for about 4 to 5 weeks, at 1800 mg a day. No one told me to not go cold turkey, so I did and that was a horrible week. So I went back to taking one a day and I want to get off of these now. ## This medication comes in lower dosages, so you could speak to your doctor about using 100mg capsules, or tablets to help you taper off of it. I was taking 300 mg neurontin. 1 in am, 1 at noon and 2 at bedtime. I was prescribed the med in May of 2013. Increased later when not helping with foot numbness. It has been almost 2 weeks since i tapered myself off of the drug and i still feel nausea in the am which affects my eating. Please advise how long it will take this med to be out of my system? Thank you. ## Hi Cindy, Sorry to hear about the nausea you've been experiencing lately. From what I've been researching, in most cases it usually ends up being around 2 to 5 days for this type of medication to clear your system. However because you've been taking it for about a year, I'd imagine your body could still probably use some time to get accustomed to not having it on a regular basis. One study I found mentioned ...

Hello, I was on 300 mgs of Gabapentin for 1 year. I reduced it to 100 mgs 1 month ago. My legs and knees are constantly riddled with rheumatic pain, also my leg muscles are getting weak to the extent it's affecting my walking. Could the Gabapentin be causing this? I have bulging discs and nerve compression in the neck. ## It's hard to say, it could be due to lowering the Gabapentin too fast, or it could be due to further degeneration of your condition. The FDA reports that Gapentin can cause these issues as side effects, as well as withdrawal effects, you may also experience nausea, headache, dry mouth, mood changes, and weight changes. Ref: Medline Plus Gabapentin Have you informed your doctor? They would be the best person to help you discover what is going on, and why. ## Tha...
