Hello. I am new to this but I came here looking for help. My mother has been using suboxone now for 5 years. She was addicted to pain pills for years and years prior to using suboxone. I'm very concerned because she looks more zonked and out of in now than her worst days using drugs. She falls asleep constantly over counters, falls every night because she's constantly falling asleep while standing up. Please help educate me. She says this is normal and she just has a sleeping disorder. She's on 32mg suboxone/day. 5 years on it now. Do you guys experience this? IS she on too much? Why is the doctor prescribing her so much. She can't even function. ## Hello, Dee! How are you? That is the highest recommend dosage, but only her doctor can decide if it's right for your mo...

I have gained custody of my grandchild because of parent addiction. They are now being given Suboxone, the rehab person says "no, they can't get high from it". I believe they can. From what information I have read he high is just not as strong. So can a person "get high" from suboxone? ## In theory, yes, someone could get high from it, because it still contains a narcotic, which is Buprenorphine. However, there are 2 factors that come into play to prevent their doing so and abusing it. When someone is in addiction treatment, the dosage is carefully calculated to be a maintenance dose, that way it prevents withdrawals from the other drugs they were abusing, but doesn't give a high effect. And the second is that it also contains Naloxone, which prevents their takin...

For all of you that are taking and abusing opiates.. Simply put cut the sh*t and get on a suboxone program.. It works but you have to want to quit taking drugs.. Yes suboxone is addictive more physically than mentally but this pales compared to your current 12-25 pills per day habit. I have been on suboxone for 2 years and I tried to ween off of them but it's very difficult.. Stop making excuses... ## Thank you for posting your experience and advice. Suboxone has helped many people with addiction problems to finally become drug free. Please keep us update on how you're doing!

will suboxone block out dianabol ## The Naloxone in Suboxone only neutralizes opiates, to help prevent someone abusing them while they are under treatment with it. Learn more Suboxone details here. So it has not effect on other medications or substances. Anabolic steroids are very dangerous, I can't tell you what you should or shouldn't do, but I do urge you to proceed with caution. Are there any other questions? ## Does steroid 4 milligram and suboxin 8 milligrams mix well?

I been on subutec for 2 yrs now my dr wants to switch me to suboxone is it safe to switch i mean doing 3 subutec today and going to suboxone tomorrow its crazy ## Hello, Joe! How are you? Yes, you can do a straight switch from one to the other. They both contain Buprenorphine, but Suboxone also contains Naloxone to help prevent someone from abusing other narcotics, while being treated with it. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Suboxone is the preferred choice, unless a woman is pregnant, or the person is allergic to the Naloxone, so most doctor's are switching their patients. Is th...

i am starting on suboxone next week...one of these messages says never tell the suboxone doctor you were at one time on methadone..why is that so,if it is ? ## I've never heard anyone say such a thing, nor have I read it anywhere. I am guessing it may have come from someone that was abusing it, rather than using it for treatment. There are many people who have successfully switched from Methadone treatment to Suboxone treatment to finally beat their addiction problems. With Methadone, they usually end up needing a lifetime maintenance dose and never get completely drug free. This is not true, however, of the Suboxone and for proper treatment, you should always be honest with your doctor. Please post back and let us know how you are doing! ## iv been to several suboxone doctors and i...

I have been on (Suboxone) for about 2 months now,I take 8mgs or break the tablet in half.I have noticed that taking this i do not have the need for anti-depressants like i did or nerve pills and even my ADD medicine.I have not stopped it all together but have went 2 weeks with out it and felt great.I just wanted to know if other people have noticed this who are taking other medications. ## While it contains the narcotic Buprenorphine, which is technically a depressant, it does have the opposite effect on some people. That fact, coupled with the high it can cause some people, is a major contributing to fact to why there are so many that end up abusing narcotics and becoming addicts. Are there any other comments or questions?

on suboxone one year iam losing to much weight i look like a junkie and depressed. ## I have the opposite problem. I have put on too much weight. Initially, I needed to gain about 20 lbs but I gained 40 and lost the first 20, now cannot get rid of the remaining 20 for anything. Any advice on that? The only thing I can tell you about gaining weight, eat ice cream before you go to bed. It helped me go from drugged out looking to normal in no time. ## Steve, have you consulted your doctor? As evidenced from Laurel's post, if you are using it as prescribed and not abusing it, it usually has quite the opposite effect and most people gain weight. Your losing is unusual and you should consult your doctor to get to the root of the problem. ## i m down to 8 mgs aday now i think my appetite i...

Here's my story. I started years ago occasionally using roxi 30's on every few weekends a month. Not a habit or addiction (per say) but just for fun at parties and bars. Around 5 months ago I began abusing them daily. (to help get through some rough times) Approx 1-3 (never more than 3, and hardly ever 3) Snorting or eating them 1/2 pill (15 mg) a time. In the past month I have began taking them upon waking. Before this it was later in the day or at night. I am tired of the feeling i have been having the past month and was given two 8mg subs. Yesterday I was feeling extremely crappy, (i understand the withdrawal symptoms, achy(which i havent gotten) diarrhea, anxiety, and cravings etc....) I took a sub yesterday morning at 11 am (approx 28 hours ago) The amount i took was EXTREM...

How many 8mg/2mg suboxone does a person take in a day? ## Hello, Cathy! How are you? You should always follow your doctor's dosing instructions. The right amount can vary from person to person, depending on the drug they were abusing and how much of it they were taking. The highest recommended dosage is 32/8mgs daily. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have had 6 neck surgeries need another and have 4 disc that are messed up my Dr prescribed me 3 80 mg oxycotin 3percocet and 4 soma a day and I want to get off them an get on suboxine so I ...

Tuesday I have an appointment scheduled with a suboxone doctor. I have became addicted to opiates in 2005 after I had surgery. I was able to sober up on my own for around a year in 2008 but I relapsed and in the past 2 years I dont think I've had even one sober day. I work, run my household, take care of my children but I just can't seem to function without something in my system. I am ready to be the person I was before I started abusing pain meds (and anything else I couls get my hands on). Im going to 3 meetings a week and a therapist to help me along the way.. but i just need someone to answer me honestly, do these really work? I don't know if I can handle living this way much longer so I really hope its "yes" ## Hi, Yes they work BUT unless you have a real bad h...

Hi I live in northern new jersey clifton, rutherford, nutley area and need a good doctor that will prescribe suboxone so I can get off oxycontin. Went to one dr and she wouldn't take me on as a patient. She wanted me to titrate down to a very low dose. I take 3 80mg oxy's a day and have been for many years. Really want to get off of this stuff. will pay cash if have to. ## Well, in such cases, most doctors are going to want you to just taper off of the Oxycontin, because it is easier and safer. Learn more Oxycontin details here. Suboxone is not meant to be used to treat someone that has only been using the prescribed amounts of a medication, it is very potent and is meant to be used by people that have been abusing a medication and taking very large amounts of it. I'm 13 days in withdrawal from Suboxone. I was on 8 mg for almost 2 years after abusing Vic/Perc for a little over year. I was never supposed to be put on this evil s*** and it's caused me to lose everything. I'm currently living in my girlfriends 2 bedroom house with her two kids. They all hate me so I basically hide in the basement thru this hell. Being alone is the hardest part for me. Will it ever end? I'm starting to think I don't want to live anymore ;(. Please help ## Hi Jojo, Sorry to hear about the suboxone withdrawals. You're certainly not alone though, as I've seen a number of other patients posting on here who are undergoing the same "hell" as you called it. And I don't think that's an understatement either. Have you tried getting ...

I was put on suboxone after two years of narcotics from three bad and failed shoulder surgeries. I started in March, April was on 1 pill a day and May 2 weeks 1/2 pill 2 weeks 1/4 my last dose was thursday. my shoulder dislocated again and need something but I don't want to be ill. any suggestions? the pharmacist says its out in 24-36 hrs but now I don't know. any suggestions? ## The main concern is actually the Naloxone, since that is what neutralizes opiates to prevent anyone abusing them, while they are under treatment with the Suboxone. Naloxone actually has a fairly short half-life of only a little over an hour and it takes approximately 5 to 6 half-lives for something to be eliminated from the body, so it would be gone in about 6 to 7 hours. The Buprenorphine, which is the...

What can i take for scoliosis and two spine fractures when i take suboxone. And my pain chronic to severe. Can my dr perscribe me a pain medicine that i can take only when my pain is at its worst? ## Well they hAve me doing pain management for 4 to 6 x a week. But they said it would be ok if i was to take oxcodone 10mg instant release 3 time a day and w percocet 5mg every 8 hrs as needed . For atleast 3 to 4 months untill i can manage my pain . Would anyone or dr give me a answer it would really help . Please help me . ## I am not a doctor, but I can tell you that Suboxone contains Buprenorphine and Naloxone, the latter of which is used to prevent someone abusing other narcotics, while they are under treatment with this medication. So, other narcotics can't be used with it, because ...

I've been abusing vicodin and percocet for over 7 years. I'm fed up with it all, but terrified BEYOND TERRIFIED of telling my doctor about it, for fear of losing my kids. I turned to a friend who takes Suboxone and she is helping me enormously......I'm on day 4 of only 4 mg per day. Anyone know if I go through the "proper channels" if I will lose my kids over this? I'd much rather be doing it under a doctor's care, but my friend helping me was pretty blunt and said that she had to LIE about the amount she was taking in order to get help in the first place. I've tried cold turkey many times and got scared to death when it lasted for more than a week...normally withdrawals were only lasting me a few days. I'm in over my head, and trying everything in my...

I was prescribed opiate painkillers for 5 years. I gradually became totally addicted to the point that while these drugs ( Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, Oxycontin and others) worked well for their intended purpose, the 'good feeling" they gave me became the focal point of my life. The unavoidable physical and psychological dependence eventually led to serious and harmful consequences- damaged or ruined relationships (divorce in my case) with people who were now less important than the drugs. Responsibilities and interests I had fell by the wayside. Although I have a legitimate need for pain relief due to nerve damage caused by disease, the doctor saw that I was abusing the drugs- taking too much and using them to get high- and cut me off. The withdrawal symptoms were horrific. I went ...

Hi, Just started on suboxone yesterday and had a couple questions.. Started abusing lortabs about 6 years ago after several failed surgeries... About a year ago, I switched to 30mg roxys..... in April I Did 28 days in rehab, stayed clean about a month before relapsing... About a month or two ago, I started doing the dreaded "H" because of the cost. Was doing about a point or two a day sometimes alone and sometimes I'd take a few roxys with it.. Anyway, did last of the H (a point) on Saturday (today is Wednesday) and 2 roxys on Monday.. Was able to get 5 - 8mg sub strips and took about 2.5 mgs of one strip last night around 6:00. Was soooo scared about precipitated withdrawals so I waited a full 25 hrs after last roxy before I took strip. It was definitely hell waiting it out...

I'm nervous to start the new meds. the only thing I've heard about suboxone is people with serious addiction problems use it. I only take at the most 20mg of oxycodone a day, which I've been told to stop taking before putting on the patch of 5mg.... My doctor has told me to wait 2 days but I've heard anywhere from 24 hours, to 8 hours or wait until you start to feel sick from the withdraw.... I just want to know if anyone else has been transitioned this way? ## Hello, Jane! How are you? You do need to be in full withdrawal, before you can start using Suboxone. The reason for this is due to it containing the opiate Buprenorphine with Naloxone, which neutralizes other opiates, to prevent someone abusing them, when being treated with it for addiction. The FDA warns that it ...
