please reply if your hair has fallen out and or you have had weight gain. if your hair has not fallen out please also reply. Thank you.......... ## Propranolol is a beta blocker and almost all of the medications in this class are known to cause weight gain and hair loss as side effects in some people that take them. Have you consulted your doctor? You may want to talk to them about trying something different in this class, such as Carvedilol, which is known to cause fewer side effects. ## Yes i've been taking propranolol for about 4 years at 10mg and almost 2 years ago i went all the way up to 160 for migraines. My hair started falling out by the handfulls after the birth of my twins. I thought it was a result of birth and then shortly I went on a 500 calorie diet and blamed my hair...

This past month, Aug.,2011, Insurance refused to pay for my Inderal so I had to take the generic propranolol. After two weeks of dizziness, I looked for the inactive ingredients on the internet and found that propranolol contained sodium lauryl sulfate as an inactive ingredient. No wonder I was dizzy--how can that stuff be allowed in our prescription drugs? It's a detergent and skin irritant. I understand the liver cannot process it. Any comments on this? Thank you for your time Joyce ## The inactive ingredients can differ from manufacturer to manufacturer. Did you look for the ones specific to the manufacturers product that you were taking? In this case, the sodium lauryl sulfate is used as an excipient, which means that it's inactive, but acts as a carrier for the active ingre...

I have been taking Inderal LA 80 for about 25 years and it has really controlled my tachycardia and palpitations. But insurance is getting less and less on coverage and I am thinking of switching to the generic Propranolol ER 80. I just don't want to take the chance that it will not to the exact same as the Inderal. Has anyone switched and seen a difference? I'm really nervous to switch, but the cost is getting prohibitive. ## Have you discussed it with your doctor, or pharmacist? They may know from other patients, of a particular manufacturer that's reliable. There can be some fluctuations in the active ingredient of generic medications, but it's very small and usually only affects people that are very sensitive to medications. ## I was switched to the ER from the SR Pr...

I was taken off Inderal because of my COPD, but recently my doctor said to take it again. I'm having reactions that may or may not be due to this med. Does anyone have answers please, concerning the combination of Beta blockers and COPD? ## Do you have any idea why the doctor told you to start taking the same medication, again? If you have high blood pressure, or some other cardiac condition, there are many other medications you can try. And yes, the FDA does warn that beta blockers, including Inderal, may cause problems for people that have COPD. Other side effects may include nausea, headache, dizziness, increased urination, and hypotension. What type of reactions are you having? Are you on any other medications?

Is this extened released like inderal LA? My Dr switched me to this. I have had great results with controlling migranes with inderal, can I expect same result with propranolol ER? ## Yes, the ER stands for extended release and Propranolol is just the generic for Inderal, or what would be its active ingredient. As to whether or not you will get the same results, there is really no way to say with any certainty. Theoretically, you should, but there can be some minor differences in generic medications, from the name brands and some people are very sensitive to those differences and find that some of the generics don't work as well. The only way to find out is to actually try it and see how well it works for you. Propranolol is a beta blocker and may cause side effects, such as: nausea, ...
