Forteo Teriparatide

Teriparatide is a form of parathyroid hormone (PTH) consisting of the first (N-terminus) 34 amino acids, which is the bioactive portion of the hormone. It is an effective anabolic (promoting bone formation) agent[3] used in the treatment of some forms of osteoporosis.[4] It is also occasionally used off-label to speed fracture healing. Teriparatide is identical to a portion of human parathyroid hormone and intermittent use activates osteoblasts more than osteoc...

Does taking the drug FORTEO affect one's INR? ## Sorry, this site does not have any doctor or nurses here, what are you referring to as INR? ## It shouldn't as it is a Parathyroid hormone replacement. If you need more information the National Institute of Health is the first place to start. ## Hi, If you are considering taking Forteo, please go to web page Patientville.com and type in the drug's name. There is a year's worth of adverse avents posted here that you won't find any where else and might give you pause for taking this as treatment. ## Does Forteo affect my INR?

Do you have a discount card for forteo. My ins says it will cost me 200 a month. I need it for my osteoporosis ## Hello, Donna! How are you? Yes, the manufacturer does have a program to help with this, you can call them to see if you're eligible, the number is 866-436-7836. If you qualify, it can reduce your out of pocket cost to $50 or less. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including administration site reaction, irritation, soreness, redness, headache and dizziness. Is there anything else I can help with?

Hi . I will be going on a trip to Honduras next month. I have the travel cooler to transport it there. But the hotel in the town I'll be at doesn't have refrigerators in the rooms. I've been looking for a way to keep it cool while I'm there for 10 days. I've looked on line for small medication coolers for meds like Insulin.. I have found 2 different products, but range in price from $55-90. Has anyone had any experience using these? Or have any suggestions for something else? thanks ## Hi, Sharon! Have you tried contacting the hotel? Though they don't have refrigerators in the rooms normally, many of them do keep small ones on hand for patrons that may need them due to medical issues, such as this. Learn more Forteo details here. It may be worth checking with the...

Osteoporosis med. Forteo Pen adiministration instructions ## My patient was taking Forteo for 2 months now, but it just so happened that she was not able to purchase another pen ahead of time. Will she able to use the remaining drug in the pen while waiting for the delivery of the next pen? Thank you. ## You should follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer, your doctor, or pharmacist. MJ, it is doubtful, since most will not load and administer it another time, they are meant for their initial uses and that's it. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and joint/muscle aches. How are you both doing? ## I am a female of 65 and only started taking forteo shots two months ago. Since I started the new syringe...

Has anyone experienced growing/lengthening of bones while taking Forteo? I have been using it for about 5 months now and I think I'm actually growing! At age 51! I was just fitted for new sneakers and went from a size 9 to a 10.5 and I've noticed that the long sleeves on some of my tops have become not so long sleeved. ## The FDA does not list that as being a normal side effect of this medication, but there is no way to say how anyone will be affected by any given medication. The typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, joint/muscle aches, and administration site reactions. However, there are also other medical conditions that may cause such issues, so it would be best to check with your physician to be sure. Are you on any other medications?

How do you take Forteo injections on a plane and travel to Cozumel for two weeks? ## Hello, Janflute! How are you? U.S. Customs, and Border Protection has an information page about traveling with your medications here. They state that you should keep medication in the original containers provided by your pharmacy, with the doctor's prescription on the label, or if they are not in the original containers, you must bring a written prescription from your doctor with you. I've traveled with medications, before, so has most of my family, and the most that was ever done was making sure they were prescribed, and that we were only carrying personal use amounts. Another thing that my doctor advised, which I've always followed, was to keep my medications in a carry on bag, rather than...

I've been on Forteo for almost 2 full months. I have been fighting weight gain and losing the fight. I've done juicing, low carb/high fat, and now I'm doing weight watchers with intermittent fasting. Why does the a Forteo literature tell about weight loss but not weight gain? It is obviously an ongoing problem from what I read from other users. In addition to the weight issues, I get very hot and sweaty for several hours and most nights only sleep a couple of hours. I'm depressed and fatigued like apparently most others on Forteo. I've been trying to snap out of it but thinking about asking for some medication for that too. I'm 58 and a lot of these symptoms are common for menopausal/ post- menopausal women, but it's strange it all seemed to just start now. I...

My family income is not below the level required for assistance from the LillyCares program. I'm 67 years old and have just retired (5/31/23) so now I'll be on a Medicare Advantage program. Is there anything else I can try to help cover the extremely high cost of Forteo?

I have been taking Forteo for 5 days. I am light headed, feeling of drunkenness, shaky, headaches, nauseous, disoriented, and some blurred vision daily. My doctors office was closed on Friday and at this point I'm scared and not sure to continue taking or not. ## The symptoms that you are describing are all listed as known side effects for forteo. They should only last for around 4 hours, however, they also state that if you experience fainting, unusual tiredness or mental/mood changes such as confusion then you should head to the emergency room as these are serious conditions that need immediate attention. ## From what I read on Medline Plus, nausea is one of the more serious side effects. I don't know about discontinuing use, but I would report what you are experiencing to you...

I am a 63 year old female with osteoporosis. I will start Forteo tonight and have some concerns based on some of the comments. Are there any positive comments that you can share? ## The main thing about reading comments online is that the people who go hunting for a place to ask questions, or make comments about it, are those that have had problems. Most people taking it do just fine, and aren't looking for a site like this to see if others share their experiences. Unfortunately, good experiences are rarely shared. The FDA does warn that Forteo may cause side effects, such as nausea, administration site reaction, headache, leg cramps, and heartburn. Ref: Forteo Information How is it working for you?

Age 49. I've had 18 months of no cycle. On Forteo for 3 weeks and suddenly I wake to menstrual bleeding? Anyone else experience this? ## Hello Marika, According to the NIH Forteo page (sections 5 and 6) and the Forteo website this is not listed as a common/known side effect associated with Forteo. The Forteo website "encourages you to report negative side effects of Prescription drugs to the FDA Visit www.fda.gov/medwatch or call 1-800-FDA-1088". I recommend that you discuss this issue with your primary care doctor immediately as this could be a more threatening issue than simple menstrual bleeding. I hope this helped, let me know if you have any additional questions.

Does anyone have Celiac and takes Forteo? My doctor prescribed this medicine for my osteoporosis. I am extremely worried about taking this medicine and all the side affects with Forteo. I am 51, post menopause, and have a fractured leg. The bone is taking a lot of time to heal. One side effect I read from Forteo was more fractures. I am looking for any side affects from people with auto immune diseases, not doctors answers. Thank you. ## Hi Alice, I am set to begin my first dosing of Forteo this week and I am very nervous. I am 53 and was dx with Celiac in 2004. I also have multiple other autoimmune dx. One of my long term meds is oral prednisone. Also early menopause at 42 with no artificial medically suggested. I have osteoporosis and osteopenia measurements. Also on warfarin for auto...

In Japan and Korea, teriparatide (generic of Forteo) is available for once-a-week or twice-a-week-injections -- instead of a daily injection. Their studies show its effectiveness this way is as good as an injection every day. They take 60 micrograms once a week, or 30 micrograms twice a week. Has anybody found a way to take the U.S. injector pen to administer 30 micrograms one time or two times a week?

I am a 65 year old female and started taking Forteo at age 63 due to a low bone density and family history of osteoporosis. I had very painful side effects in most of my joints and muscles. I stopped taking it after 3 months and the pain went away after several more months. Two years down the road, and not on any medications, the same pains have returned and have persisted for the last 5 months. The pain is especially bad once I lay down at night. Today I cannot lift my arm over my shoulder, my thumb is so painful I can not write a grocery list and, after hiking 5,000 foot mountains just 6 months ago, I need assistance to get in or out of bed. I have tested negative for bone cancer and Lyme disease. Rheumatoid arthritis has been ruled out but without conclusive testing. Has anyone had t...

I need to know if it's true that it helps offset the loss of hair some people experience(1/3 of hair some need wigs) and what are the dosages 10,000 mcs or mls plus Vit B complex and what vitamins/mineral supple ments? ## Biotin may help, but the only way to find out is for you to try it. However, you should always check with your doctor to make sure that it's safe for you to do so. You shouldn't exceed the dosage suggested by your doctor or on the product packaging. There is no proven supplement protocol that I can give you, I'm sorry, I wish there were. Vitamin E is also said to help with the health of your hair, so that could be another to try, if your doctor says it is safe for you to take. Does anyone else have any suggestions to add? ## I believe that while you are...

I have done Forteo, Prolia and now my doctor wants me to do Reclasp. I am 75 years old, haven't had any fractures I am aware of. Forteo caused more pain than usual, Prolia caused hair loss and the texture of my hair changed. The hair loss I mean bald spots. I have put off the Reclasp my doctor is wanting me to do, more poison going into my body and I don't feel any better. At my age, I have enough aches and pain without medication making me feel worse. ANYONE have anything positive to say about this drug. ## Unfortunately, I haven't read any posts from anyone that's had good experiences with Reclast, or most of the other medications that you've listed. They are all known to cause side effects, such as nausea, diarrhea, joint aches, bone pain, and elevated calcium lev...

osterporosis bonebuilding fromEli Lilly ## I think you are referring to Forteo - at least that's how I know it to be spelled. Here's a little background. How does it work? This medicine contains the active ingredient teriparatide, which is a type of medicine called a bone formation agent. Teriparatide is a synthetic version of the human parathyroid hormone, produced by the parathyroid glands. This hormone is involved in the metabolism of calcium and phosphorous. Teriparatide mimics the effects of the natural human hormone and is used to increase bone formation. Bone is not a static structure. There is a continual turnover over of bone in the body; bone is formed by cells called osteoblasts, and is broken down by cells called osteoclasts. In women at the menopause, blood levels o...
