My doctor has just prescribed Folbic tabs because my Homocysteine level was high. I have been trying to find out how much folic acid is in each pill. I take Methotrexate for rheumatoid arthritis. From what I read the only difference between Folic Acid and Folbic is that Folbic contains B12 am I wrong ## Folbic actually contains Pyridoxine, Cyanacobalamin and Folic Acid, so it has two B vitamins with the Folic Acid. pls tell me taking vitamin B12 is benificial or harmful to heart dieases ## Vitamin B12 is an important nutrient that our bodies need. Studies have shown that it can help with heart disease, by lowering Homocysteine levels in the blood. Elevated levels have been directly associated with worsening heart disease. However, you can't go overboard with it and use more than what is directed, because the can be dangerous and cause other health problems. The studies mainly showed it to be of the most benefit, when coupled with Folic Acid, so that is another supplement you may want to consider adding. Are there any other questions?

A doctor said that Metformin at times creates deficiency of Vitamin B12 resulting in loss of haemoglobin. My mother is diabetic and B12, folic acid deficient. I have the MTHFR mutation: compound heterozygosity c.665C.>T?1268A>C. This defect may lead to early arteriosclerotic vascular disease or venous thrombosis and toxicity from medications affecting folate metabolism. I have a homocysteine level on the high side of normal(three times the low level). This doctor gives his patients this vitamin combo because levodopa can cause high elevation of homocysteine is associated with the above diseases.
