From the information I am finding, the regular, adult formulation contains 8mgs of Chlorpheniramine and 10mgs of Hydrocodone, per teaspoon. The Hydrocodone is a narcotic, so you may experience side effects such as: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and constipation. ## I thought tussionex had codine in it. COUGH MED. ## Is this a narcotic? ## Yes, if you refer to the drug monograph here: Tussionex you will see it contains Hydrocodone and from some manufacturers Dyhydrocodeinone. ## Tussionex EXTRel Cost me $50.00 co-pay and not worth crap. Heavy cough ## I was prescribed Tussionex syrup for an acute bronchial infection, along with an antibiotic and an inhalant. I took the Tussionex before I went to bed, and was not able to sleep a wink all night. I had a similar reaction to another cold medication about 5 years ago. Is this common? I have taken TUSSIONEX several times when I've had bronchitis. It really breaks up the congestion and helps with the cough. I got a bottle today and the consistency is like Water. My resolved has always been a thick consistency and gritty. I am prone to severe bronchitis from time to time. But it's been quite awhile. However, I took my 67 yr. old wife in to the doc to check out her awful coughing for the last several days. She has it so bad that her rib cage and muscles make her scream in pain. I asked about Tussi Gold for her, but was told they had no idea what that was! I saw a doc on the box today and Walgreens will not prescribe my usually cough med tussinex my dr was booked until Tuesday. I have bronchitis double ear infection and sinitis. The gave me brofam but it is not numbing my throat or suppressing my cough long enough.
