Sinemet Overview
Carbidopa/levodopa, also known as levocarb and co-careldopa, is the combination of the two medications carbidopa and levodopa.[1] It is primarily used to manage the symptoms of Parkinson's disease, but it does not slow down the disease or stop it from getting worse.[1] It is taken by mouth.[1] It can take two to three weeks of treatment before benefits are seen.[2] Each dose then begins working in about ten minutes to two hours w...

Sinemet and Atrial Fibrillation
My dad just started Sinemet 1/2 pill of 25-100 once a day. I read from various websites that one of the side effects is Atrial Fibrillation from taking this medicine. I'd like to solicit your experience on the use of this drug, particularly related to possibility of causing Atrial Fib. Thanks. ## It has been known to cause irregular heart beats, according to FDA reports, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination. Are you on any other medications? What does his doctor think has caused it? The NIH does list it as possibly being caused by various medications, as well as various medical conditions, thus there is a chance there might be more at play here than the Sinemet.

Sinemet dosage
I have been extremely lightheaded taking sinemet 25/100 3 and 4 times daily. Can it be taken once daily? ## Hello, Judy! How are you feeling? Has there been any change? You should take it according to your doctor's prescribing instructions. Side effects are typically transient and tend to go away, once your body gets used to a medication, but that usually takes about 4 to 5 weeks of taking it at the same consistent dose, as reported by the NIH. Other side effects may include nausea, and headache.

what is the difference between cr and er Sinemet
I take generic Sinemet 25/100. What is the difference between Rytary and Sinemet, besides price? ## There is no different, both the CR and ER just designate them as being time released formulation of the medication, according to the NIH, otherwise, the active ingredients and the way they act in the body are the same. If one is too expensive, there is no harm in trying the cheaper versions, all are still approved by the FDA. The typical side effects of this medication are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, rash, hiccups, and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

One every dose he takes 1 regular and 1 CR Problem: the only good onstate he gets is after first dose. But in the afternoon most of the time the meda dont work Other: he takes ropinirole (.25) 3 times and Amantadine (100) 2 times Need help, 1. Can i increase hos dosage? 2. Any other meds can improve Sinemet effectiveness? ## Hello, Muhammad! How is your dad doing? You shouldn't adjust the dosage of any of his medications, without his doctor's approval. What else is different in the afternoon that could be affecting it? Is he more active at that time of day? Less active? Does he eat more? Does he take his medication...

I have been taking sinemet 25/100 for parkinsons. I was taking 8 a day with dr. permission. I began taking more without permission to ward off what i call parkinsons attacks. My dr scolded me and told me to try to go back to 8. I feel the need for another doe before time for the scheduled dose if i only take 8 a day. I realize its like withdrawl from drugs. but do you have any suggestions for me to keep feeling ok without the extra pills? ## Hello, Pam! How are you? Sinemet doesn't work that way, actually. You can't just randomly take more some days to ward off symptoms. For it to be effective a consistent dose needs to be taken daily for about 4 to 5 weeks. It also won't cause severe withdrawal symptoms, since it's not a habit forming medication and you're still tak...

carb/levo 25-100 MG for parkinsons
Are there any generic versions of this tablet either er or direct version which contain different coloring ingredients than the original sinmet product? ## @Dr. Perry, From what I could gather, Sinemet (Carbidopa + Levodopa) by Merck Pharma reportedly contains the following inactive ingredients: hydroxypropyl cellulose + pregelatinized starch + crospovidone + microcrystalline cellulose + magnesium stearate. NOTE: FD&C Blue #2 are also present in the 10mg/100mg and 25mg/250mg dosage forms; whereas D&C Yellow #10 Lake is used in the 25mg/100mg dosage form. As far as an alternative goes, I did notice that Sandoz makes a generic Carbidopa + Levodopa (w/ the addition of Entacapone) marketed for treating similar conditions, but does have a different list of inactive ingredients: corn ...

How to Reduce Carbo-Levo and Stop Medication
My mother is showing undesirable side effects of this medication and is ready to stop taking it. She's taking one tablet of Sinemet, three times per day. What is proper strategy to stop? Gradually? All at once? Implications ## Hello, Mike! How is she doing? How long has she been taking it? Side effects are normal and should eventually taper off, once her body adjusts to the medication. Has she consulted her doctor about the problem? They would be the best person to advise her on this matter.

Is Sinemet Better Than Generic Carb Levo
The generic 50-200 carb/levo seems to not be as effective as sinemet. should I get only sinemet, not generics ## If the sinemet works better I would stay with that. Especially when u are not having good results on the generic. Talk to your doc & request "Dispense As Written" and have script written for sinemet. ## Great advice Tracy! I thought I'd mention that generic medications are allowed (by the FDA) to contain up to 20% more or less of the actual active ingredients. This factor, along with different inactive ingredients (binders/fillers) could enable you to have a completely different reaction to each medication. Therefore, that may be the cause of the problem you're having with the generic. I've also read that one pill amongst an entire pack/bottle of a gen...
