Will Morphine Help Pill Withdrawal (Top voted first)

Updated

I am trying to get off opiates myself but safely, I have been fighting this demon for years and I don't want it anymore. I have 26 of the 30mg morphine sulphate pills to help with the withdrawal discomfort, so how do I taper and do this process safely???

@Gracie,

Sorry to hear about your situation. I do agree that it would probably be a good idea to work closely with your prescribing doctor on a tapering schedule that seems feasible. Although post #1's tapering advice seems sound, my understanding is that only the prescribing doctor can legally advise you on how to do this safely (otherwise you risk holding no one accountable for whatever you experience during this often unpleasant process). There is no one-size-fits-all approach and what works for someone else may or may not work for you for a number of different reasons; so I'd encourage you to take all instructive feedback with a grain of salt if you will...

Have you also considered investigating any alternative therapies to help ease withdrawal discomfort (e.g. kratom; cannabis)?

Sources:

The US National Institute of Health states that, "the predominant alkaloid of kratom, mitragynine, binds mu- and kappa-opioid receptors, but has additional receptor affinities that might augment its effectiveness at mitigating opioid withdrawal."

The US National Institute of Health states that, "cannabinoids can prevent the development of tolerance to and withdrawal from opiates, and can even rekindle opiate analgesia after a prior dosage has become ineffective."

Hope this helps!
