I've been taking cephalexin 500 mg 3 times a day for 5 days now for my upper respiratory infection and sinus infection per dr request but i still feel pretty rough. Still coughing and blowing out nasty stuff. Why isn't this working yet?

Hi Janice,

Sorry to hear about your situation. Depending the severity of the infection(s) some doctors prescribe these antibiotics for up to 7-10 days, so it's possible that you may not get full relief for another 2-5 days.

On another note, Cephalexin also has some strange side effects that in my opinion could inadvertently be mistaken for an ongoing infection. This includes "coughing, nausea and vomiting, sore throat, tightness in the chest, etc".

But none the less, if that's not an issue, then it sounds to me like you may just need to give it more time. How long did the doctor say you had to take this for?

Thank you so much for replying. He said it could take up to a cpl wks but the antibiodic was for 7 days. I'm feeling some better now but the coughing is starting to get to me. Seems the cough always seems to linger w any upper respiratory problems.
