I am 60 years old. I was diagnosed with "GERD" 3 years ago for which I was prescribed rabeprazole sodium and domperidone formulation - 1 capsule daily. I have been using the medicine since then without any side effects. Short time discontinuance, 3-4 days, has no adverse effect. However, discontinuance beyond that the diagnosed problems resurface all over again. Is it OK to continue taking this medicine kind of lifelong? My last medical exam about 6 months has been normal. Thanks and Regards.

That's a very long time to keep taking it and the concern is that long-term use of the Rabeprazole can increase the risk of hip fractures, which could be very risky at your age.

Learn more Rabeprazole details here.

What else have you tried to treat the GERD, such as just regular antacids?

Do you watch what you eat and drink to help prevent it from happening?

Thanks a lot. My last medical tests in Dec 12 did not indicate any bone density problem. I have very mild pain in my knees while walking. Diagnosed as age related.

I have tried other antacids liquid formulations ( Methopolysilox + Mag Hydroxide + Alu Hydroxide + Sod Carboxymethyl Cellulose - Sold in India by the name of Digene ) and Ranitidine Tablets 150 mg . However, the relief is temporary and multiple doses are required on daily basis. I need only one capsule of the Raberprazole combination mentioned in my initial communication.

I am a vegetarian, I don't drink Aerated Drinks or Alcohal. 2-3 cups of highly diluted Indian Tea with Milk is the only beverage taken on daily basis. Regular food is neither very oily nor spicy. Common drink is refrigerated water through RO purifier in summers and without refrigeration in winters. .

Any more insight in the matter after availability of this info will be highly useful.

Thanks and Regards.

hi, from recently like from past 3-4 months i'am having short and heavy breath problem which includes wheezing, chest congestion. From my childhood i have cold problem as i am getting it very frequently and for this I am taking cetrizine from very long time and currently i developed the above short breath problem as i can't able to breath and having sweatning. Moreover I am getting gas problem also as I have lot of burrp and it usually happens in night time after meal. From local chemist i took firstly salbutamol and theophylline but it didn't work then he gave derriphyllin and Rabeprzole sodium and Domperidone.

But this derriphyllin is also not working, presently when i m writing this I am facing this problem. while taking also short and heavy breathing will occur or if i walk 3-4 steps than also i'm having heavy breathing.

please give me a better and permanent solution, i am very much frustated and can't live with this.

I'm a non smoker, non alcoholic, age 27, little bit on fatty side, vegetarian, no other kind of disease i have, BP also normal.
