Patients Positive Results Taking Eliquis And Metoprolol
(Newest replies first)

Updated

My cardiologist wants to put me on the drug eliquis 5mg 2x daily for AFIB, plus the drug metoprolol ER succinate for HBP. I would like to read patients results, mostly positive and good, after or while taking these drugs. I am 84 yrs young and with few exceptions have been prescribed drugs (example- anti-biotics) in my lifetime - not even an aspirin, so I am quite concerned about these drugs especially since I've read so many negative verging on horror stories regarding Eliquis.

It is now November 2017 and I am still holding out on Eliquis and Metoprolol - I hope that more people will come forth who take JUST THESE TWO DRUGS TOGETHER - ELIQUIS, THE BLOOD THINNER AND METOPOLOL, THE BLOOD PRESSURE REDUCER and speak of their reaction to them. However, I've been thinking of metopolol and maybe I could take it alone - or do any other people know of a drug that they use to lower their blood pressure that works for them and is not going to produce side effects that leads to more health problems. I'd greatly appreciate your comments.

Re: Dan (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Dan - A year ago you responded to my concern - BUT - I hadn't figured out the basics of this chat. So thank you for your response in time - as I read your message several times I had to honestly admit "...between taking the drug Eliquis or bleeding to death", as you stated was my only choice. Bleeding to death, you suggest is not as bad as having a heart attack or a stroke - BUT - how about kidney failure due to this drug Eliquis, or having to be on dialysis for the rest of your life - or not having the energy to do much of anything and your body filled with aches and pains all the time? Can I wake up in the morning and say, "Great - I'm still alive?" What kind of life is that? Sincerely, hope all is still working out for you, but I'm passing on Eliquis.

Hi Jazzy,

I see that Dan posted helpful feedback on his experience and perspective on Eliquis. So I just wanted to provide you with a link to another active discussion thread here that's centered around Metoprolol (which you can visit by clicking on the following highlighted words): "metoprolol withdrawal"

I realize the title includes the word "withdrawal", but the thread itself is filled with numerous comments (over 1600) from individuals who've taken this drug for an extended period of time. Perhaps their take on Metoprolol may give you an idea of what to expect during and post treatment.

As far as taking Eliquis alongside Metoprolol, there aren't any contraindications listed on the umm.edu drug interaction tool.

Lastly, despite the reaction that other patients may have had, your response to either medication could very well be different and therefore external feedback should probably be taken with a grain of salt, because who really knows why they reacted in such a way...

I hope this helps!

I've been on Eliquis for over a year for DVT & PE. I can't say enough good things about it. I'm sure your doctor is good & has checked your kidney function before determining your dose. I experienced headaches and upset stomach when I first started taking it, but they were mild & disappeared after about the first month. Sure, there are horror stories with any anticoagulant, but what is your alternative? Would you rather die a painful death from a PE or bleed to death? Just be sure that you have some way to track your doses (like a med organizer), so you don't accidentally take too much. To that end, Eliquis seems to be the safest anticoagulant (including warfarin) on the market that is appropriate for AFIB.
