Re: Lydia (# 25) Expand Referenced Message

Oh my??? Oh my! YOU should do further research about people who have true anxiety so severe that they can’t live a normal life! YOU should do further research about how xanax is truly a lifesaver for people with severe anxiety and who need this medication because IT WORKS!!! I get so angry that because it’s “addicting “ people think it’s no good! If these people went through the hell we did, they’d quickly change their minds!

Re: tonya (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

Tammi and Tonya. The only way you are going to get a prescription is either you already have one and medical records. If you don’t have either one then you need to find a primary doctor who will refer you to a psychiatrist who can then prescribe you medication..Its not like it was a few years ago to where you can walk into any doctors office and ask for benzos

Hi g, you are absolutely right. Information retrieved from AARP states exactly that some of the doctors contributed to a lot of people's addiction. Vol 58 no 5, the title was "The Opioid Menace".

Hi Notallbad, what we have to keep in mind is that a lot of people end up becoming addicted to many of these medications. Many people are initially prescribed these meds due to legitimate reasons. I don't really like the word "Dopehead", but IMO, True "Dope heads" don't go to doctors to get scripts for meds. They go straight to the street corner. They are also very skilled at finding a street dealer. I was reading an article in AARP, and it said of the population that have high incidences of addiction/dependencies to these drugs are the geriatrics population. They also stated that many of them are on a fixed income and wind up selling their meds to supplement their income. A lot of are in the same boat because addiction does not discriminate. Whether a person gets a legal script, and another person buys it off the streets it doesn't matter because we all have the same demons.

g,
I agree with some of what you proffered but did you make your alcoholism abundantly clear to your doctors at the time of treatment? I do agree that there is enough blame to go around for all parties concerned.
If anyone familiar with " addictionologist " most will agree it's a pseudo specialty made up of once troubled prescribers now suffering from a god complex and actually justify withdrawing legit. Medications for the sole purpose they contain a risk or degree of habituation. I'm sorry that's no way to practice medicine. Judicious
prescribing by competent skilled professionals are more then capable of deciphering a risk to benefit ratio that we are taught demands diligent consideration but certainly within the parameters of most prescribers. Addictionologists are a stain on the field of medicine.I remain, respectfully
KSK.

I am so tired of everybody blaming the patients for doctors not wanting to prescribe things. Yes, I agree that many of these people are addicted, but let's consider who typically got them addicted. When I was diagnosed with pancreatitis due to my drinking in my 20's and early 30's, my doctor put me on OxyContin. I was hesitant about him upping my dosage regularly, but he said if I take it as prescribed, I wouldn't become addicted. Well, he was wrong. Now, I know my doctor's intentions were good. He wasn't a legal drug dealer. He was just unaware of how addiction works. Medical doctor's are not addictionologists, if that's the right word? My point is my doctor knew that I had pancreatitis due to drinking, so it should have been obvious that I had addiction potential.Unfortunately, many doctor's prescribe the medication and as soon as they think the patient may have a dependency on the medication, the cut them off. Having said that, the patient or now addict is not the only one responsible for their predicament.

Mary
Your outrage at DOPEHEADS makes one wonder what insecuries your attempting to refocus on some who has a true illness such as genetic predisposition for addiction similar to your disposition to feel anxious. Cast not the first stone, and try to remember there for the grace of God go I!!!!!!!

PS btw the next prescriber just may be a recovering DOPEHEAD who has given you the greatest gift, A CHANCE AT A LIFE without the aide of powerful addictive benzo agent.there are alternatives available at least competent prescribers should entertain that option BEFORE continuing that course of treatment. JUST SOME FOOD FOR THOUGHT.
We are not all bad

I hope you can find a psychiatrist to help you get the xanax. You should ask him or her about clonzePAM. Ir is not as nasty a drug as xanax. I know. I took xanax for over 10 years and am off of it now! Feel much better! Most family Dr's won't prescribe xanax. Good luck!

Yes Mary, Dope Heads make it hard to find a Psychiatrist! You are correct. Most of the Dr.s who handle anxiety and panic attacks are getting out of that type of business. And are not going to treat people with anxiety or panic attacks. And it's not fair because many of us are truly sick. But the Dr's are tired of being harassed. That is what the FDA told me where I live. It's a shame the Dr's are in this position due to dope heads and Dr. shopping. But the situation with the Dr's is what it is! There is not much we can do about that.
