Dismissed By Primary Doctor

Updated

In December I was in the hospital for 7 days for lung issues. I also have a lot of other issues with my back and kidneys. I my primary doctor has had me on noco for several years and sometimes when the pain is bad she gives me oxcodone to take in between for break though pain. In the end of December I had lipotripsy. The stone didn't break enough and I was in a great amount of pain so kidney doctor went ahead and done another lipotripsy 3 weeks earlier then he would have liked to. That was at the end of January. They put you to sleep to do this so you are totally out of it for most of the day. Kidney doctor gave my husband several Rx to fill on the way home. One was for oxycodone. I had no idea of this until I went to my primary doctor about 3 weeks later and thought nothing about the medication because I had aready been taking the same thing from primary. I didn't know that this oxycodone was not from my primary because I would only take what I had to for pain and would have some left. When I went I to see primary doctor I was dismissed. I tried to tell them that I been under anastasia that day and my husband had filled everything the kidney doctor gave him without knowing what all I take and had put it in with the bag with the rest of my medications and drug store even told them that he had pick it up and I was out of it. Now what do I do? Can I get another primary and then go to pain management for other medicine?

Might be more than one reason.

Just move on.

Hello, Ronnie! How are you?

Unfortunately, due to the increasing levels of drug abuse, and doctor shopping, many doctors will now only prescribe such medications upon agreement that you don't get them from any other doctor, and if you do, they will dismiss you. The National Institute on Drug Abuse states that doctor shopping isn't as common as it was once thought, but many doctors still feel safer being very cautious. This is sometimes to the detriment of their patients.

Your best bet would be to set up an appointment and see a new doctor, but if your prior one felt some level of suspicion and dismissed you, that will likely be noted in your medical records, so it may make other physician's reluctant to prescribe controlled substances for you.

Have you tried pain management, before? That might be your best option.
