What is the safest way to get off of atenonl, triam hctz35, 7, and lisinoprill.my blood pressure is now below normal and I don't need to be on these anymore after 19 yrs.
Hello, Antoinette! How are you?
Just because your blood pressure is now low, that doesn't mean you no longer need any medications to help keep it down. As evidenced by stopping the other medication, and the resultant edema, your body is most likely not controlling these issues on its own and needs the added assistance. There are many NIH research and info pages you can read about this.
Yes, stopping a medication, or two, is a good idea, if your blood pressure is going too low and causing symptoms, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, fainting, and fatigue, as listed by the NIH, but stopping them all could cause it to just start elevating again, plus an elevated heart rate, which could result in heart attack, stroke, or congestive heart failure; the latter of which is big concern with the edema you're experiencing.
Coming from someone that suffered congestive heart failure, at a very young age before I was even 40, I can assure you that it is terrifying and may result in coma, and/or death. Waking up full of various tubes, with a catheter and several IVs was not my idea of a good day.
High blood pressure is something that must be taken seriously and constantly controlled, while monitoring it regularly.
Ultimately, what you decide is up to you, I can only tell you the dangers of doing so. Thus, I would suggest not stopping them all, unless your doctor approves.
What have you recent blood pressure readings been?
