Zanidip And Swollen Ankles
(Newest replies first)

Updated

Took Zanidip for only 11 days and stopped (under dr advice) due to severe swelling in my feet, ankles and lower legs. So much so that my shoes did not fit and it feels like the whole area is bruised. Has anyone else experienced this? I have stopped meds for 4 days and the swelling has not gone down - I am getting worried that this may be permanent. Any advice or ideas?

My blood pressure medication was changed to Zanidip as it has part vascular treatment in it too and I had very bad circulation in my feet and legs in winter and diagnosed as Reynauds disease. 10 mg a day caused bad swelling on feet so was advised to take only 5 mg a day. Now summer and feet and ankles up to calf badly swollen even on only 5mg. I do take diuretics but this has not stopped this side effect. I am now going to see what the outcome will be if I take the medication in the night and see if legs will swell whilst at rest.??? I went back on to my old BP medication for a week but noticed the blue feet and Reynauds symptoms returned so back to
Zanidip and return of swollen feet and a ankles. Let us see if taking at night makes a difference.

Hi, i have had swollen ankles since a young age! Now 59,
Not sure when it actually started but wish it would go away, i have been to dr and just says to elevate my feet as much as i can, they get so tight! but looking after my grandchildren has made this impossible, I wish there was a way of reducing the size of my ankles! Please help.

Zanidip contains the active ingredient Lercanidipine, which is a calcium channel blocker, used to help lower blood pressure and treat certain cardiac conditions.

They are known to cause edema in some people and, when it does, the medication must be discontinued and they usually have to switch to something else.

If yours is not improving, you may need to take a diuretic, to help your body expel the excess fluid, because leaving it as is, or letting more build up could be dangerous and may lead to conditions such as congestive heart failure.

Have you consulted your doctor?
