Wrongfully Dropped By Doctor Ms Contin
UpdatedMy ex was being malicious and called my doctors office telling them I was an addict and questioning how much medication I should be taking (2 or 3) I take MS Contin 60 mg. Two days later, I get a letter from my doctor stating that I was an addict and he was dropping me. I wrote the dr and told him I will bring my pills in so he can count them and give me a drug test however, now the dr won't even call me back. I don't know what to do. Any suggestions? I have MS, disc problems and neuropathy pain plus, a metal plate in my neck.

Unfortunately, the only thing I can really suggest is that you find a new doctor.
Under U.S. law, if you are not currently in life threatening danger, no doctor is obligated to keep you as a patient or to continue to treat you, so you really have no recourse.
Have you ever run out early or given your doctor reason to believe it?
I went to a new doctor today. He is a psychiatrist. I took a drug test, which I passed. I took my pills and signed a new drug contract. This turned out great. If you do the right thing with your medication, you will be fine. I am going to have a little bit of physical therapy in a pool but, nothing more can be done for me. This new doctor called the doctor that dropped me and the doctor wouldn't talk to him. I'm just glad everything is going to be ok. Thanks for writing me.
furious - I WOULD do what your old doctor did. Drop him! Don't talk with him or return any and all phone calls. Unless you could be in immediate danger of course. I'm speaking about your husband!!!
Furious:
I don't know what State you live in, however, I would file a complaint against your physician (the State Board), talking to any other individual about your treatment, or medical records, WITHOUT your consent. I would, at the very least, have an investigation opened against your Doctor, as he/she has absolutely no right to discuss your medical care with anybody.
You don't know what was said on that phone conversation, but your physician took the "hearsay" as the truth, then acted upon it. This is the most unprofessional thing I have ever heard a health-care provider do (especially when you have no history of abusing medications).
Honestly, after reading your posting three times, I still cannot believe ANY physician would take action, based on some random phone conversation, with a person the Physician has no connection with. Again, not to mention that Doctor has no right discussing your medical history, treatment plan, or anything else. It sounds to me as if your ex-physician is a huge, whack-job!
I would DEFINITELY file a complaint against that physician. If nothing else, just to open an investigation and get the information on what was said and why your Physician would accept a phone call, from a random person.
I'm happy you found a new Doctor, who is hopefully way more professional than the previous one. I would do everything in my power to make your first Doctor's life a living hell!
