Whipple Surgery
UpdatedI asked on a post several months ago about a surgery called "Whipple". I have read all the info I can conjure up on the internet (there's nothing in the library)...but i still don't feel comfortable about having this procedure done. I am in constant pain (re: douendal flipping) when i make certain body movements. It is a very rare disease and it's causing excruciating pain. I have been told the surgery will last from 5 to 11 hours. Any feedback is welcome whether it's positive or negative. I just need advise asap please.

Whipple surgery is most commonly used to treat pancreatic cancer that affects the head of the pancreas, though it can also be used to treat some other conditions, as well. According to NIH information, the surgery basically removes certain parts of your pancreas, bile ducts, and the duodenum. Then everything is reconnected to allow a person to eat, and digest normally, after the procedure.
Yes, the surgery can take a long time, since everything has to be altered, then reconnected, plus caution must be taken to prevent infection.
Have you sought a second opinion regarding your diagnosis, and what may help? What specific disease did they say you have? Are you on any medications?
