3 days on a sulfur drug and I can't sleep and have difficulty urinating since taking it. I quit after 5 days, but it is still hard to sleep and I still have a problem urinating which were both ok before taking this drug. It was prescribed to cure a sore beneath my nose caused by pneumonia and excessive nose blowing, which was cured by a prescription ointment. ## What medication was it? Was it an antibiotic containing Sulfamethoxazole, and Trimethoprim? It can sometimes cause side effects like you've described, as well as nausea, dizziness, headache, and non-allergic skin rash. Ref: Bactrim Information Typically, the go away a few days after finishing your course of treatment, but if they do not, you should consult your doctor.

my friend tested positive for benzodiazephine. the only drug he's taken is sulfamethoxazole tmp ds. how can this be? ## Same here.... I tested positive as well ## My son had just completed his probation and final drug test. He is on Bactrium -TMP DS and showed positive for benzodizapaem how can this be ## So did I! Thank God my outpatient sends to lab! But w drug court on site tests it showed up positive. Unbelievable! ## So, this is a bit late; but yes, the additive that combines the sulfamethoxazole and the trimethoprim CAN cause an instant drug test to come back POSITIVE for benzos. Its happened to me several times. It is not fun. When it is sent out to a lab, they use GC/MS to confirm it as a NEGATIVE. I hope this gives you all some peace of mind. But, if you did use any benzos,...

These are both antibiotics that are used to treat or prevent infection, but it is not appropriate to take them, unless your doctor has instructed you to do so. That said, yes, they are often used together to ensure an infection is fully eradicated. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash, headache and diarrhea. ## Isn’t Ciprofloxacin a dangerous antibiotic?

Is Ilvitrim Suspension good for my HIV negative baby? The doctor prescribe it while she was having a short breath problem. Thanks ## Hi Fanyana, Based on my research, Ilvitrim contains the active ingredients Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim; a sulfonamide antibacterial combination that is used in the treatment of a variety of bacterial infections. (not just limited to HIV). If your child's doctor prescribed it for what appears to be an upper respiratory or sinus related infection, Ilvitrim does sound like an appropriate medication for the job. However if you're asking whether or not a powerful antibiotic like this is good for your baby, my personal answer would be no, due to it's high risk of side effects. In which case, I would personally consider other more natural alternat...

It doesn't bother my skin except it's causing a drying feeling; but if I'm not allergic to that and I'm allergic to sulfa related drugs would it be safe to use this soap anyways? I have a minor skin infection on my face. Can someone please help? ## They are different substances, sulfur is present in eggs, some soaps, and various other substances naturally. However, sulpha/sulfa is a different chemical, so being allergic to one does not necessarily equate being allergic to the other. It doesn't rule out your experiencing another, unrelated, allergy, though. For example, after taking an antibiotic containing Sulfamethoxazole, I discovered I have a sulpha allergy, but I don't react to sulfur in eggs, soaps, and other substances. Basically, one is natural, and one is...

I'm taking sulfameth for UTI but the pills are to big for me to swallow, does anyone know if you can chew or crush them? Thanks! ## I am not an MD, but I can offer you my personal educated opinion. If the pill is a capsule you can certainly open most capsules to release its contents into water to make it easier to take down. If that's not the case, then crushing the solid pill into smaller pieces would not alter its chemical makeup; it would only divide the dosage up into smaller parts. Sometimes pills accidentally break on their own from falling on the floor or getting squished, but they are still usable in most cases. I hope my opinion somewhat helps in your decision. Please post back if you have any other questions or concerns. ## It also depends on whether the tablets are me...

And i went to my GYN and was testednegative for everything but e coli wwhich was why i took it. But now there is this discjarge so i am now using an over the counter 3 day monistat to hopefully clear the symptoms and side effects of the medication. Almost everybody here talks about drinking much. My question is if I take a simple cup of red wine after my dinner at 8 and then take my sulfa at 12. I really do not think that a cup of good red table wine would be so disastrous as some readers have commented. Thank you. ## I think your intuition is correct - moderation is the key. One cup of red wine should not result in a bad reaction, although it may increase certain effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, or upset stomach. Be sure to learn about the possible side effects from the drug itself so that you can monitor how you feel and report any adverse effects to your doctor if need be. You can see a more comprehensive list on the page for Sulfamethoxazole Details. Hope this helps! ## Thank you very much! ## If I skip my medicine for o...
