Start Period After Missing One Day On Loestrin 24 Fe
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I've been on Loestrin 24 FE for almost a year now. I have severe headaches before or on my period. When I miss one pill, my period starts immediately. I was on Yaz before and didn't have these problems. I am also experiencing mood swings on Loestrin 24 FE, is any of this normal? I'm 36 years old and on antidepressants, the reason my doctor put me on this was to have two day periods, while I'm in college. I've had a couple of times of no period at all, and I've had 2 week periods, only one time of two days, this year. I liked the Yaz better, will have a doctor's appointment soon, should I tell my doctor that I want to switch the birth control pill? I think the estrogen levels are too low for me with this pill!

The mood swings and breakthrough bleeding, especially when you miss a pill, are normal side effects to hormonal contraceptive tablets. However, if you are finding it problematic and know that a different one works better for you, then yes, you should definitely discuss it with your doctor.

I've tried a range of them over the years, since my son was 3 weeks old (he's now 16) and found several that were problematic, but when I contacted my doctor, they were always understanding and quickly suggested something else I could try.

I have been taking Loestrin 24 Fe for almost a year now, and if I miss a pill, usually I get my period the next day. Sometimes it's only light bleeding for that day, sometimes it's a full period. I think it makes sense, since when you stop the pills at the end of the month you get your period. I used to bleed all month though, so it might be different for you.
