Quitting Suboxone After 4 Years
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I was taking suboxone for the past 3-4 years after being addicted to lortabs for nearly 7 years. I was only taking on average 2 1/2 - 3 a day, some days up to 8 some days down to 1 depending on the supply in town. It was hell waking up everyday having to take pills to be normal. I discovered suboxone from a friend and got really sick taking my first one (it was only a 1/3 of one). I discovered that if I cut it into strips of about 1/8" long that was plenty enough to function. One sub would last about a week. I was way cheaper to buy this than Iortabs and I functioned 10x better. I recently decided I would taper down even less and attempt to quit all together. I'm on day 4 with no subs and have excruciating pains in my legs and diarrhea. My friend has given me ultram to halfway help with this but after reading a lot from this and other forums I prolly got another 3-4 days of this even though my mg levels were not that much but the duration of time I have depended on it was very long. Suboxone was helpful for a time so I do not regret taking it but a word of warning, they are as if not more addictive than the drugs they help to relieve. I finally have my head in a place were quitting is a choice I WANT to make, and I think that is the first step in quitting any drug that you have a dependence on. Good luck to anyone who has or will make that step

Suboxone is definitely as addicting as other opiates, especially if you've been on them for a significant amount of time.

Unfortunately, the WD's also last longer with Sub so you might be in for a while of mild symptoms and then a bout of PAWS even further down the road.

I've been on the drug for 5 years and have a ton of experience with it. I'm trying to help other Suboxone patients.

Wow. That's crazy. I've been on 8mgs daily Suboxone for 2 years. I keep reading disastrous stories about coming off them. I want to come off them but your story also makes me nervous and you were taking a lot lower dosage than I. Oh boy.
