Hi, can I use Purbac to treat Cat Flu in dogs? ## Hi can I use purbac to tret cat flu in dogs ## Hello, To answer your question, Antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections. They are not effective against viral infections like the flu in humans or animals. Have you taken your pet to a vet to get checked out yet? I would think they should be able to prescribe something that is more suitable for at least managing any flu-like symptoms. I hope this helps!

hi, can i take purbac d.s. for a tooth infection ## Purbac DS contains the active ingredients Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim, it is an antibiotic that's used to treat various types of infections. And it can be used for a dental infection, but the relevant question is: Was it prescribe to treat this dental infection? If not and you just have some left over from a prior prescription, you may run into problems if you don't have enough to completely eradicate the infection, because you run the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. On top of that, a dental infection does require proper follow up treatment from a dentist to fix the underlying issue that has caused it, or there is a high likelihood that it will just recur. Purbac 480 - My son is using Purbac 480, I need to know if it can cause damage to his liver, as he needs to take it for a long time. Recently I noticed that his color changed to yellow, we did a bloodtest and there were no liver damage on anything else. ## There has actually been some concern about using Purbac (Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim), since it has been associated with both frequent mild allergic reactions and serious adverse effects, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome, myelosuppression, mydriasis, agranulocytosis, and severe liver damage (cholestatic hepatosis, hepatitis, liver necrosis, and fulminant liver failure). That said, from my perspective, I wouldn't suggest taking this long term if your son doesn't "have to" or if he can find another alternative anti...

I have bronchiactisis a lung condition. I have been using purbac for almost 6 months and really feel good after years of other antibiotics. Are there side effects on the long term for using perbac. This is the only antibiotic I use. ## The dose and length of time you have to take Purbac will depend on the type of infection you have. The problem with using any antibiotic a lot or for long-term is that resistant strains of bacteria eventually develop and then the antibiotic is no longer as effective. As far as any side effects go, Purbac (Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim) unfortunately has a generous list of them: Allergic - Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, anaphylaxis, allergic myocarditis, erythema multiforme, exfoliative dermatitis, angiodema, drug fever, chills, He...

Hi, I have been taking purbac for about 3 years on and off now for my acne. As soon as my prescription ends I get horrible sore swollen pimples around my chin and mouth. I'm really battling with the purbac though as it makes me bloated. I've also started suffering with a lot of hamstring pain which I think may be related. What do I do now? Are there any over the counter meds or creamsI can use? ## What else has your doctor advised? Purbac contains Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim, it is an antibiotic prescribed under the name Bactrim in many countries. Being on it for so long means that there's the possibility of a rebound effect, when you stop taking it. If that's the case, it may just be a matter of waiting for it to process out of your body and clear up on its own. H...

My dermatologist changed my acne script a week ago to Purbac 480mg 2x daily and my skinny legs are blowing up so that I look like I have elephantitus at about 6pm. I can't remember if these symptoms started with the new pills or before. Could this be a side-effect of Purbac. It is really uncomfortable. ## The swelling which you are reporting appears to be a strong reaction to Sulfamethoxazole (the active ingredient). I'd recommend notifying your doctor / pharmacist, as they may have you discontinue it or put you on something else. Good luck & let me know how it goes!
