Both my 12 year old daughter and I have strep throat, and we were told that Pentrexyl is very similar to Penicillin? Is this true and safe to take?

Pentrexyl contains the antibiotic Ampicillin, which is a relative of Penicillin and used to treat many types of bacterial infections.

Some of the most common side effects include: nausea, drowsiness, diarrhea and skin rash.

My concern here, of course, is as to whether or not your doctor has diagnosed these infections and recommended the use of an antibiotic?

There are many things that can cause a sore throat and self-diagnosing and self-treating could possibly cause problems to arise with drug-resistant bacteria.
