Pain Mgmt/abusing Meds

I agree with the person who stated that those who abuse pain meds, especially when you are not prescribed them - make it hard for those of us with true chronic pain. I reside in Florida and it's an Act of Congress in this state to find pain mgmt that truly believes in you. Of course MRI's, X-Rays, that helps also. But it frustrates me to no end everyone that's so paranoid about being tested because they shouldn't be taking it in the first place. I won't go through my medical issues except suffice to say one of the things I'm trying to avoid is a spinal fusion. I'm terrified because no one could help take care of me or my dogs....at all. True chronic pain will begin to mess with your depression, and I already have Major Depressive Disorder. This pain has robbed me of my quality of life. I've not dated in 12 years and I'm only 51 (and kinda cute!). Ok, I just wanted to get thus off my chest, thank you for listening.

Cindy, my deepest condolences on your profound loss, I am so very sorry. You should consider grief counselling, you deserve a life, celebrate your daughter's by regaining yours and I don't say that lightly AT ALL. I can't even imagine your pain, and as far as the pain wearing you down, I think we can ALL understand that one. Go to your GP, skip PM maybe if you have a regular doctor and tell them how much your pain is affecting your life. Surgery is your choice, it's your body, but I wish you could benefit w/o narcotics. Have you ever tried a TENS unit? They also have these numbing patches that can relieve back pain for like 12 hours, can't remember what they are called, possibly someone can add. Get yourself to a support group, you just might find the comfort you need and the companionship you deserve. Thoughts and prayers are w/you!

Thx Brynn and to everyone for the support. My depression started when I lost my daughter when she was almost 3. As far as my lower back, Physicsl therapy made it worse each time. Lumbar injections, etc....I have done it and continue to be open to doing it over and over. I just want one day without feeling it, you know? They have also done a Radiofrequency Ablation, to no avail. And while I am grateful for the medicine I'm being given, it's tearing up my stomach because I have a history of bleeding ulcers. I just take 40 mg of Nexium twice a day and nausea medicine when needed. I know it could always be worse.

Hi Cindy! Like Verwon, I so agree, you are NOT the sum total of your pain or illness and there are truly good guys still out there. If you don't want surgery, other options should be available to you but unfortunately Florida is tough to get help for pain I hear. Forgive me but I am going to have to ask, no one seems to know the answer but why did Florida have so many issues w/pain meds/pill mills? It really seems it all started in Florida and it's hurt every patient in the USA, but sadly more in FLA and I feel for you. We used to talk of going there for help, most states (except those caravaning to Florida, i.e., TN, KY, etc...) have not allowed such a prolific use of narcotics. It's so bad that many of us in other states, never w/anything close to this problem (always a few bad docs everywhere), have to go through countless approval processes b/c of limits placed on narcotics, I believe that's why many of us require more than one long-acting med. This soon will be a target, take a peek at insurance formularies for 2014, they are lowering pill limits and raising co-pays up to 4-5 tines current price levels to force us all on meds that are cheap but not necessarily effective for us and individuals and dependence and tolerance issues. Ok back to you, this world is depressing, add in pain and it happens, you are in a major depressive episode, what are you doing to get out if it? Every pain patient goes through depression and it's just horrible, it can rob you of everything, only if you let it. I know it's not that easy but I think depression is more painful than physical pain, it's a hopeless place but you have to keep trying to get help. Often times it takes the right combo of relief and counseling to fig yourself out if what must feel like a bottomless pit. Be open w/your doctor, maybe done thing like Nuycunta will help you and doctors are not so scared to RX. For awhile (when I could) physical therapy did wonders for my pain and depression, you need a workout buddy to force you to go. Try local support groups, great way to meet a guy who will have empathy and the support you need. Get up and out, get something that names you feel cuter than I already know you are and it will only hoist your spirits. Fake it til you make it girl!! I've got a husband of 30+ years and he's been a true friend and love. I see lots of friends choose the wrong guy over & over again. Find a best friend and don't expect it to be like the movies, lol! It's not, and everybody has their issues so you are NOT your pain nor depression, if you try to protect yourself from all of the bad in this world, you are probably doing the sane w/the good so take a chance. No one should go through this life alone, especially when you don't want to. You can vent anytime, I hope this helps you, you are not alone.

Hello, Cindy! How are you? I'm sorry that you have been struggling like this, no one deserve to be miserable.

As to the dating, why are you letting this stop you? Any guy worth having is going to understand and help you out. :-) I admit they're hard to find, but there are some good ones out there.

What type of doctor are you currently seeing?
