Opiates And Pain Management (Top voted first)

Updated

I have been taking various opiates for pain management for about four years now. Pain management for me has been a very touchy balancing act. If any small change is made, my pain can go "out of control". I have several conditions that are occurring at the same time, I have been told that opiates do not help with the Fibromyalgia pain (but I have found that opiates help mine). Opiates definitely help the pain caused by other conditions. Does anyone have information on how opiates that you have taken for over five years are now effecting you?

Most people I know who have fibromyalgia say that exercise is the best cure for their symptoms. So in the event that those meds ever stop working for you, due to a high tolerance/side effects/etc., that may be something to take into consideration as a part of your lifestyle.

While I don't have personal experience being on opioids for that long, I do know people who have; and to be quite honest they seem like they're still living a normal life given the circumstances. In reality though, everyone's going to have somewhat of a different reaction in relation to their body chemistry, age, weight, diet, mental fortitude, metabolism, and so forth. We all handle ourselves differently day to day, and I believe our lifestyles (outside of taking these meds) is what truly shapes us into who we are as a person and how things effect us in the long run.

I know it isn't exactly a straight answer to your question, but I hope this insight helps!

David, thanks for the input. I do the pool and walking for exercise, not allowed because of my joints to do other types. I like the pool, but I'm not sure how much "burn" it does LOL I walk slow so I know there's no "burn" with that, but between the two I do keep somewhat moving.
My mental attitude seems to be effected more than anything with the chronic pain. I find a balance that works for me, then something changes. I've been fighting for months now to find a pharmacy that carries oxycodone that IS NOT made by KVK Tech. Found one several months ago, then OH NO yesterday, guess what, they too are now unable to find any brand but the KVK Tech.
