I am suffering from severe epigastric pain and flatulence and was diagnosed as IBS. since last 30 years. All the tests like colonoscopy, endoscopy, blood test, fat absorption test, ultra sound have shown negative. Recently endoscopy showed oesophagytis B. I was given nexpro 40 mg and lesuide. Of late the it has become very bad. I get constant pain in the abdomen, nausea, flatulence, bloated feeling. Nights I have disturbed sleep and pass lot of wind, sometimes foul smelling. Mornings I have urgency to pass motion, and i have quit loose motion and sometimes semi solid. No blood, rarely mucus is seen in stools. I feel run down with joint pain, body pain etc. As soon as I eat I have bloated feeling. I am scared to eat outside and am very careful not to eat spicy and oily food. But still it affects me. I pass motion only once though I have sensation for passing stools. I have not vomited though I have the nausea feeling. The abdominal pain is continuous and is affecting my routine. I am 60 years old. My gastroenterologist suggested morease sr or normaxin. I tried morease sr for 2-3 days with not much improvement. I have tried most of the antacids, with no use. Recently it is affecting me so much that I feel terribly dejected. There is no sudden loss of body weight. Please advice which medicine is better, which has less side affects. Or you may also kindly suggest something new drug which has proven to be effective for my symptoms.

I had similar symptoms; so my doctor suggested a colonoscopy. It turned out I had colitis (inflammation of the intestine), so the doctor started me on mesacol suppositories. I had massive improvement. My current condition is much better, I have on and off symptoms for a week.

One thing I noticed was that my symptoms are at their worst when I am under stress. So I try not to be stressed

@Srinivas C,

I'm sorry to hear about what you're going through. Based on my research, Normaxin contains the active ingredients Chlordiazepoxide, Clidinium and Dicyclomine, it is used as an antispasmodic, which is commonly used to treat the symptoms of IBS.

When it comes to the effectiveness, some people have positive results with it and some don't, which is true of basically any medication, because it depends on the individual and their unique body chemistry. The only way to know if it will help you is by trying it.

Some of the common side effects may include: drowsiness, altered sex drive, constipation and confusion.

If I can recommend anything for the gastrointestinal issues you are experiencing, it would be peppermint oil. Hot tea or a glass of water with peppermint or just the aroma of peppermint may help to soothe the stomach and provide some relief. You should be able to get pure peppermint oil at your local health foods store. I recommend the brands do terra and young living- their oils are some of the purest available on the market.

I hope this helps!
