My Dr Took My Bottle Of Pills From Me And Wrote A Prescription For Another Pain Med (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

I saw my Dr. yesterday and called him because I was still in pain. He told me to come back and to bring the bottle of medication with me. He took the bottle of pain pills that I had paid for and wrote me a script for a different medication. Can a Dr. actually take someone's pills away from them like that?

Hahaha yeah I guess if you don’t want this doctor to ever treat you again.
But why go through all that for a controlled substance they claimed they weren’t going to take.

This person is going to make themselves look like a drug seeker/dealer.

A doctor doesn’t have to treat you. Go ahead and try to get them in trouble for not wanting to contribute to drug diversion and see how much help you get in the future.

Ask yourself why you want your pills back if they didn’t work. Maybe send the receipt and ask for your $ back, but demanding drugs you said you didn’t want makes you look like a criminal.

Not with pain pills! I was hooked on those many years! I take subutex and that formula has also changed. Since January of this yr everyone has cracked down the system, the drs, the pharms and fda. All of the sudden everything will kill you, ridiculous it is! Since Michael Jackson a lot of ma and pa drs closed their doors! Prince dying and so many others were allowed to take the pills for so long and now people who have pain the worst can’t get the pain pills or the quantity and all these genetics came out that don’t work! No one should have to beg for pain pills if they are suffering with terminal diseases, disgusting!!

It all depends on the doctor. I think they are supposed to take and dispose of the unused pills if writing a new script for increased dose or whatever. My doctor doesn't but he told me to get rid of them. I was getting alot of scripts over the last 6 months or so with my ADD meds. My doctor was changing my meds from Adderall ir to Vyvanse then upping the dose. When that didn't work I went back to Adderall xr then trying to find a dose that works. I had gotten a bunch of scripts and because I didn't do it in a shady way I was able to. Eventually I had my dose upped again this past month and I got a pharmacist that I didn't know who really looked into it hard. She wouldn't fill it and I have to wait now. So now I'm not messing with my dose anymore.

Benzo's has nothing to do with pain pills ( opiates) & she/he had just received the script the day prior to telling dr. That they weren't strong enough; Dr. was caring enough to write a new script for a stronger narcotic- they could have told the doc they would prefer to keep the script they just paid for INSTEAD, but by NO MEANS does the DOC have to put his self on the line by giving extra pain meds to anyone!! This is A HUGE Part of the problem here; you people think you are entitled to get what you want, and when you don't YOU want to make trouble!! Turn the dr in, ect... Here's a Dr. that actually seems to care about treating the patient's pain, but that isn't good enough.... ??????

Is it right for a doc to send your U/A two thousand miles away, but refuse to use a local place to check for drugs?

I want someone to show me this law that says doctors CAN, OR ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE A PATIENTS MEDICATION IF THEY ARE SWITCHING MEDS, TAKING THEM OFF OF IT, ETC. You can't show it to me because it does not exist. Now, if you signed a contract with that doctor saying you would turn over left over medication, then you gave them permission to do it, or most likely they would dismiss you from the practice.

AS FOR JENIFER, it's none of anyone's business why he wants to keep his meds, up and until he does something illegal. HE PAID FOR THAT MEDICINE, AND IT'S LEGALLY HIS PROPERTY, JUST AS IF HE HAD BOUGHT A 12 pack of cokes at the same time, no one has the right to take his last, leftover coke from him. IT'S JUST COMMON SENSE PEOPLE. THIS IS THE USA, NOT CUBA OR RED CHINA. YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO YOUR PROPERTY, EXCEPT BY DUE PROCESS, IN OTHER WORDS, A SEARCH WARRANT. 4TH AMENDMENT, US CONSTITUTION.

YES He can if he is giving You another prescription; he has to be accountable for giving You these narcotics so they or Pharmacy can take previous med that was written BEFORE giving YOU the replacing meds

Please people read the active ingredient and see if it is the same med. Also always check if meds are generic or brand name. Generic is a bit sus these days. Read up on them and find out how they are manufactured.

Re: Optimistic (# 45) Expand Referenced Message

Hi,

Where have I been? In Washington state I started the bups in 2012. Before that I had no knowledge. In this state they the drs told me to get ready for some changes starting 1/1/19. not only for the bups but for everything! Every thing I have been on for yrs all of the sudden, is going to cause a lot of life changes down the road. It’s ridiculous it really is!

A physician can't just "take" your medication, at the same time they don't have to write you a new prescription. Ethically, especially in this day and age, the physician did the right thing. I would have done the exact same thing.

Re: Wired68 (# 12) Expand Referenced Message

Yes, under the eyes of the patient and another witness!!!!
And yes they can write u one if it’s not working and you would return it to the pharmacy!!!! Not the doc. The doc can count the meds and relay that’s what you would be returning to pharmacy. But it should be 75% if script. Because why would you keep using if it wasn’t working. Otherwise that’s considered drug seeking behavior!!

But doctors abuse too!!!

Re: DrJoeyMDPhD (# 20) Expand Referenced Message

Where did you study for your degrees to become a Doctor/ MDPhD? Because wherever you went literally just took your money and Lord help the patients that you did diagnosis of any kind during your Residency? because I can not fully understand what you meant?eg: " a bite"? I have my degree in Nursing ( Bachelor of Science ) and I would never get on a forum of any topic especially medication and attempt to help someone or even suggest anything. Yes if you really do have a Degree in Medicine please let everyone know what State you are in so they can stay away from your practice.
