How often are they seeing her?

They aren't going to send someone out to check on her, if her doctor has just prescribed a medication. It is a narcotic and may cause some side effects, but she should know to stop taking it and call if she has any problems. They should also be seeing her in office about once a month.

Learn more Morphine details here.

Does she have any problem comprehending and understanding anything at her age?

I take both Methadone and Morphine. I only use the Morphine for what is known as "Break Out" pain. Methadone is a man made "synthetic" opiate that can last 24 hours, give or take a few hours. At any age a patient or Guardian of the patient should be educated and cautious of the drug. I would speak to the physician about Methadone as it has less side effects. Be aware that once on either of these drugs they cannot be stopped abruptly. A patient especially the elderly can go into cardiac arrest.
