i have been on mirtazapine for nearly six years and want to come of it as it's now casuing me to feel spaced out on most days. depressed and suicidal. My doctor has told me that all anit depressents are all the same, he's just fobbing me off and I'm fed up with him as he is with me. i've been told to ask for a change. If not then I wont take anything meds at all.That will make me worse I'm sure. Mirtazapine might work for some people but it's a poor drug. ## You are correct, they are not all the same, there are several different classed of antidepressant that you can try, some work better for one person than they do for others. what affects am I likly to get from going off 3 and a half, 30mg. Mirtazapine. I have been on them for a long time. How long does it take to loose all the weight, Ive gained ## Mirtazipine is an antidepressant, along with the withdrawal effects, you can also experience rebound effects, such as worsening of the symptoms that you started taking it for, so it is usually advisable to taper off this medication, slowly. As to the withdrawal effects, they can include: nausea, chills/fever, diarrhea and muddled thinking. As to the weight loss, it can take awhile, perhaps months and you will need to make sure you exercise and watch your diet, just as you would to lose any kind of weight. Have you discussed the possibility of discontinuing the medication with your doctor?
