Meclizine -- Tired As A Side Effect

I am a 19 yr old male, and am prescribed 12.5mg meclizine, three times a day, because i have vertigo. However, taking this makes me very tired. Do you think a doctor would prescribe me something like adderall to counter the drowsiness that I am experiencing?

Adderall is not likely as it is strictly controlled and addictive. You would most likely be prescribed Modafinil which is used for Excessive Daytime Sleepiness and Narcolepsy.

An important question is, how long have you been taking it?

Meclizine is an antihistamine that is commonly used to treat or prevent nausea and vertigo. However, most of these medications reach their peak of side effects at around 4 to 6 weeks of use and then, as your body gets used to the drug, the side effects should start to lessen in severity.

In such instances, since they don't expect such side effects to continue, it is unlikely that most doctors will prescribe anything else to treat them.

In addition, Adderall itself can cause side effects and its generally a bad idea to give another medication to treat the side effects of a different one, because it can just create a continuing cycle of problems.
