I have been on this drug for less than a week and I have terrible pain in my joints, my fingers, my knees, etc. Could this be a side effect from the drug? ## I have been taking the drug for three days and my joints are killing me, alonng with sleepiness. ## I took this about four weeks ago and still have horrible pain in joints (knees, fingers, toes) ... wondered how long it took for your side effects to subside. ## I have 2.5 days left in my RX of Microbid (7 day course) . As of yesterday, I have had moderate achiness in both knees (they ache REALLY bad). I am 43 yr old female and past injuries and no arthritis in knees. I am relating this to this medication (Microbid) Thank goodness I have a desk job; however, when I do walk even short distances or up stairs my knees hurt. By the end ...

Is macrobid or the generic ( Nitrofur Macr 100) be related to Sulfer or Penicillin? ## Although this is an antibiotic, It does not contain Sulfur, nor is it related to Penicillin. Due to sulfa allergies, it must be stated on a medication when it contains a sulfur-based ingredient. This antibiotic does have a lot of side effects however, so you may be experiencing one or more of these if you do have any symptoms. You can read more about this drug by clicking on the links below: I would suggest looking into the vast number of natural antibiotic alternatives (in the form of herbs, essential oils, and dietary changes) if you're not getting the results you're looking for from Nitrofurantoin. I hope this helps!

I have an UTI causedby beta amyloid protein and by E Coli. I'm aware of the relationship between beta amyloid protein plaque and Alzeimers disease. How did I get this in the bladder? I'm taking macrobid PO because this UTI was resistant to other meds . ## There are several ways that such an infection can occur, but most commonly it is spread from the anus towards the urinary tract, by improper wiping, when using the bathroom. Have you spoken to your doctor about methods for future prevention?

Took macrobid x 9 days and allergic reaction. ## Macrobid is an antibiotic drug and like most antibiotics when stopped, it will stay in your system for about a week, but a lot depends on the dosage and also your metabolism; so it could be a little more or less. It is common for a doctor to prescribe a 7-10 day course for an antibiotic; and from what I've read, most antibiotics will continue to fight off bacteria for 4-10 days (about a week) after use. Regarding the allergic reaction, information that I've gathered states the following: "A serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, tro...

I took this drug about 5 hours ago. I am now very itchy and my skin is red and hot especially in the joints and my head and neck groin and backside. I have taken a shower but it did not help. What should I do? I have taken this as macrobid before and have never had this reaction or any for that matter. ## Have you consulted your doctor? It is normal for your body to change, with time, as you age, so it is always possible to develop an allergy to something, even if you have used it before, without any problems. In addition, though they are considered inactive, the fillers in generic medications are usually different than those used in the name brand, so it is possible to have a reaction to one of them, as well. In this case, it's probably not advisable to continue to use this medicat...

I am on a generic for Nitrofur Mac 100 mg. I have a severe kidney infection and am awaiting the results of x-ray and ultra sound of kidneys, but will not have a doctor's appointment for 1 week. Is this drug safe for my kidney, as it states for a bladder or UTI. ## In most cases, if something is wrong with your kidney tests and the doctor feels you should not continue with this antibiotic, they will contact you immediately, as soon as they review the test results, rather than waiting for your appointment. This contains the active ingredient Nitrofurantoin, which is an antibiotic. The current warnings about renal function are actually not conclusive and, if you do have a severe infection, not taking the antibiotic to treat it could be much worse than the possible dangers of using it. ...

I have a severe kidney infection, and testing was done ie: xray, ultra sound, to determine if anything worse is going on, but I do not have a doctor's appointment for the results for 1 week. Is this medicine safe for my kidney ? I was prescribed a generic at 100 mg. I am a little concerned about some of the warnings ## Have you contacted your doctor about your concerns? This contains the active ingredient Nitrofurantoin, which is an antibiotic. The current warnings about renal function are actually not conclusive and, if you do have a severe infection, not taking the antibiotic to treat it could be much worse than the possible dangers of using it.

I have a drug reaction to Macrobid - does this generic cause the same side effects as Macrobid? The inside of my mouth, tonsils and throat are itching. ## Yes, they are the exact same thing and carry the risk of the same exact side effects and allergic reactions. This does not sound, however, like a normal side effect, but more like a possible allergy to the medication. You should consult your doctor or pharmacist, right away. Who suggested you should use the generic, instead of the name brand?

after taking this drug became very sick with headache, severe rigors, flu like symptoms, pain that moved around organ to organ, pleuresy with severe lung pain, couldn't lie down for days. Tests revealed nothing. I am normally very healthy and this episode was put down to viral infection by my doctor. Has anyone else had these symptoms after taking Macrobid? ## I too had severe flu like symptoms, I was very fatigued, muscle and joint pain, and extreme difficulty with breathing. It is 9 months later and I now have severe allergies, asthma and my lung function on a good day is at 70%, all of which began after I took Macrobid. ## My symptoms were exactly the same. It happened twice a year apart. I was given a double perscription for a bladder infection. Told to take half now and save th...

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE EFFECTS OF USING BOTH MACROBID AND EVENING PRIMROSE? ## There are no interactions listed, however, since Evening Primrose is a supplement, not a medication, this is not always studied. You should ask your doctor or pharmacist just to be certain. Is there anything else I can help you with?

I am taking 30mg of Prozac once daily, 0.5 Klonopin, Asacoland100mg twice a day ofNitrofurant Monohy would 1 to 2 glasses of wine harm me. We are having a Holliday party. ## It is not generally a good idea to mix any prescription drugs with alcohol. The main reason being that it can enhance already undesirable side effects such as nausea, drowsiness, headache and etc.
