I have been on Loestrin 24 Fe for almost a year, I take my pill at the same time every day and I start my packs the Sunday after my period starts. I know in the packet info it says that before you start taking the pills, if you are a Sunday starter, to use a backup method of birth control the first week. I just started having sex regularly with my boyfriend and was wondering if I am suppose to use a backup method the first week of EVERY pack or if that was only for when I initially started on the Loestrin 24 fe?

Hello Internet world—I'm afraid I am on the edge. I have no idea what is wrong with me anymore. I'm a 22 year old healthy female, and I'm afraid my mood swings and depression are worse than ever before. My boyfriend of two years seems more distant than ever, and I think it is all my fault. I am normally the most laid-back, happy, goofiest person I know, I eat healthy, exercise regularly and have a low-stress job and lifestyle. I live on my own and support myself completely. My problem is during the 1-2 weeks before my period I turn into an absolute nightmare. My mom, best friend, and boyfriend all know exactly when it happens and say I become a completely different person. During those days I can not make myself happy no matter how hard I try, I pick apart...

I have been on BC for 8 years now yasim, yas, Loestrin Fe 24 and now Lo Loestrin for the past 4 months. I've always had periods, very light but I had them. I was forgetting to take pills regularly throughout the last month, but I always took 2 or 3 when I finally remembered. I did also have unprotected sex with my husband throughout the month. 3 weeks ago I took the white then brown pills to get a period and nothing. So I am over 2 weeks late now, and no real period 3 days ago I had dark brown very, very light spotting for 2 days. During the last 3 weeks with no pills and no period I did also have unprotected sex. Took a pregnancy test last week and it was negative. I read that many women don't get their period on Loloestrin and Loestrin 24 Fe which I have taken before for almos...

I've been on Loestrin 24 Fe for about 5 years now and i absolutely love it. Hardly ever get my period and craziness/mood swings definitely at a minimal. However, I stopped taking it because I lost my job and didn't have insurance and I just got my period for the first time since being off of it and I am bleeding through super tampons almost every hour. Will this seriously only last for 5 days because It feels like it will never stop. and will my periods be like this every time?? ## Yes, it could be due to stopping the contraceptives, since your body has to rebalance your hormone levels. However, it's difficult to say how long it will last and it it will happen again. It all depends on your body and how fast it adjusts. Learn more oral contraceptive details here. Have you con...

I've been in loestrin 24 for a year now, possibly a year and a half. My boyfriend and I are active and we use pull-out with the birth control. I'm on my last day of white pills today and yesterday I started getting a brown spotting, like the beginning of my period, and now when I woke up today it was dark red and kind of clumpy (sorry) like it was the beginning of my period. I've never had my period start before my placebo pills, usually on the third brown pill is when it starts. I haven't missed a pill completely, but I have taken several this month 3-4 hours late, if that makes any difference? I'm a little freaked out and have been really stressed for a while. If anyone can shed some light on what's going on I'd reallllly appreciate it. Thanks. ## If you...

Okay, so I have been on loestrin 24 fe for almost a year and 3 months. Every month my period comes on the last day of the brown pills, except this month. I had sex on August 17th, but we used a condom and it didn't break and I have never missed a pill. My period came as usual on August 27th. Now this month I haven't seen it at all. I'm worried that something went wrong or either it was too soon to miss last month. My period was due September 24th and it hasn't come at all. I am a college student and I just started school in late August. It is a new environment with more stress and school work. Could this be a factor as to why I have missed it? Or is there a possibility I could be pregant? Like I said, the condom didn't break and I have never missed a pill. Thanks for...

So I took my Loestrin inactive pills early to not have my period on the weekend. The last inactive pill I had was Wednesday, and it is now Sunday and I'm still bleeding. I have been taking my pill on time everyday. Any idea what the problem is? ## Hi Jacque, From what I've been told, bleeding on these pills is very common; and may just require an adjustment period for your body to get used to the medication. It will stop eventually (but some users report the abnormal bleeding lasting as long as a few months). One product review I came across, states the following: "I'm on the generic for Loestrin, I'm nearly finished with my second pack, and halfway into it I began bleeding and did so for about a week at varying degrees of severity." I hope this info helps! ## Th...

So I have been on lo estrin 24 for over a year. On my last pack i got my period a week and a half before i was supposed to start the brown pills. I continued and finished the pack as usual and started the next one as scheduled. On day 2 of taking the active pills again the condom slipped. We caught it before anything happened. I still panicked (after reading info on pre ejaculate) and took First Choice a day and a half later. Am i still protected after only 2 days of use? ## If you haven't missed any tablets and have only had placebo weeks where you had the withdrawal induced menstrual cycle, then you are always protected. There is no break in protection, even during your period week, as long as you've not missed any of the active pills. Learn more oral contraceptive details her...

So i am going to finish my latest pack of loestrin 24 fe and i wanted to delay my next month's period by a week. Would waiting a exactly a week after my regular start date, to start my next pack be okay? if so, would i have to use back up protection the whole month or just until a week after using active pills? ## You would just need a back up form of contraception for the first week of taking active pills.. Alternatively, if you can pick up an extra pack of pills, rather than skipping a week, you could just continue taking active pills and skip the inactive ones that would induce your menstrual cycle. Okay so I'm about to have to get real personal here for a second. But the way my birth control works out I would have just have gotten off of my period the next time I get to be with my boyfriend (if you know what I mean). I haven't seen him in a few months and I want it to be all clear for when I get to see him. So my plan was to take the placebo pills a week earlier than I'm suppose to just to be extra sure that everything will be all good. Is that an okay thing to do??? I feel like it should be because I would still be taking the right number of pills just mix up when I take the placebos but my boyfriend is worried that it would mess something up. SO is there anybody who can give me advice on this? It would be greatly appreciated ^-^ Thanks ## Yes, you'd still be prot...

Hi, I was on Yasmin (generic and brand) for 4 years. Just switched to Loestrin 24 Fe because I could no longer handle the strange moods and irreversible weight gain brought on by Yasmin. I am experiencing bleeding during my 2nd week on Loestrin; while on Yasmin, I never even experienced one day of spotting. Is this due to the decrease/change in hormone levels? When can I expect this to stop? Thank you. ## Yes, that could be what's caused it and it may last as long as 3 months, while your body adjusts to the new hormone levels. I'm 17 years old, and started Loestrin 24 fe roughly 4 months ago. Ever since I've started I've experienced dizzy spells, nausea, migraines, mood swings, and significant weight loss. I lost 7 pounds without trying (leaving me at 110 pounds) Has anyone else experienced this too, or should I be concerned about something other than birth control? ## You should definitely contact your doctor, those are normal side effects for oral contraceptives. They can cause some minor symptoms, but they should definitely not be that severe. Thus, there is a concern it may be more than just the pills causing it. Learn more oral contraceptive details here. Are there any other questions or comments?

I have been taking Loestrin consistently for about two years, although the timing has been a bit scattered lately (usually within an hour or two every day). Last month, I did not get my period at all. This month, again I am on the second placebo pill and still no period. This has never happened before in the past two years of taking this pill. Normal? ## Yes, skipping your menstrual cycle can be a completely normal side effect of taking an oral, hormonal based contraceptive. However, if you missed any, or took them more than 24 hours late, there is always a chance that you might be pregnant, if you've been sexually active. You should consult your doctor and have a test done, just to be sure. Are there any other questions or comments?

I just started Loestrin24 and I have been taking it all month. I've been bleeding lightly most days (I've taken it almost 4 weeks now). Is this normal? Also, my period is supposed to come during the time I am taking the brown pills... right? So why did it come three days before even starting the brown pills. I'm really nervous... is any of this a reason to call the doctor? ## By all means, if you have concerns, call your doctor. However, this is a hormonal based contraceptive, so the types of symptoms you're experiencing are normal and can continue for the first 3 months that you're taking them. Learn more:

I am an active college student, who works and I am under a lot of stress. I also take Loestrin 24 and woman's one a day vitamins. I started vomiting about two weeks ago right after eating pizza and couldn't keep anything down. A week later, after multiple hours after eating a slice of pizza I got sick again, right after taking my pill and a woman's one a day vitamin. I am not sure if I threw up the pill, but I continued to take my pill regularly. Yesterday I had pizza, and felt fine, but I forgot to take my pill last night so I took it this morning along with the vitamin and about 10 minutes later I threw up. My questions are do you think I still have contraceptive coverage, even after throwing up? Do you think the pill or vitamin is causing me to throw up, or could it possi...

Hi, i was wondering do you suppose to take the last 4 brown pills or skip them and start the next pack with the white pills.. no other concerns with this birthcontrol been on this for a 2 years. ## I never take the brown pills. They're just sugar pills. I wait until Sunday to start the new pack. I've been taking this birth control for two years. It doesn't hurt you if you don't take them. ## That is correct, there is no harm in skipping the placebo pills, as long as you remember to start the new pack on the appropriate day. They are really just put in there as reminder pills to keep women in the habit of taking them daily. Are there any other questions or comments? ## This will be my first time using this pill. I just got my period Monday, yesterday. When should I start ...

I take it every night at 1 am, because that is when i am usually home and awake. is this ok? i dont know if there are better/worse times to take it, or if it doesnt really matter? ## According to my doctor, anytime of day is perfectly safe and effective. The important thing is to use the SAME time every day. As he put it, on birth control you pick a time that works for you and then that is YOUR TIME! ## I was on my second week of pills and I missed on Sunday. I doubled on Monday. I take my pill around 7-8 pm every day. On Tuesday of same week I had unprotected sex before I took my pill. What are the chances I could get pregnant?

Hi, I have been on this pill for a year now. I normally take my pills every morning at 8:00. I am on the third week of taking my pill and forgot to take thurs, and fri pill a the same time. I had unprotected sex thur, and Friday, but I continue to take sat and sun pills correctly. I am on the last week and my period should start Sunday. No period. It has been six days now no period. I took a urine and blood test yesterday they were negative. Could I still be pregant? ## If you had the regular medical lab tests of both blood and urine, then it isn't likely that you're pregnant, they can usually detect it very early, but you should speak to your doctor about your concerns, just in case. You may be late just due to the fact that you missed a couple of pills and have thrown off the h...

Im a first time user so while talking the first packet I was cramping and spotting on Week 3 of the packet. The spotting lasted five days. So my question is if this was my period, should i continue to take the remainder of pills that is from the first packet or throw those out and start my second packet? ## The breakthrough bleeding, such as you experienced, can be a normal side effect, when you are new to taking hormonal contraceptives and is not considered the same as your actual menstrual cycle, so you should continue taking the tablets exactly as prescribed, without skipping any. Is there anything else I can help with?

I've been on loestrin 24 fe for three months now and I haven't seen period yet. I've been freaking out because I'm concern of what's going on. I've taking pregnancy test through blood work and urine and both has came back negative. Any suggestions??? ## Since it does affect the hormones in your body, to prevent ovulation, this can be a completely normal thing to go through. There is, however, no harm in skipping your menstrual cycle and you are still protected against pregnancy, as long as you are taking the tablets daily, without missing any. Many women use contraceptive tablets to control when they are going to have their time of the month, to avoid it during special occasions, when it may be inconvenient to have one. Have you discussed your concerns with your ...
