Irregular Bleeding On Lo Loestrin Fe From Pills Or Miscarriage?

Updated

So about a month and a half ago, my period came late. I had had unprotected sex on a day I was likely ovulating and, while I never took a pregnancy test, I am convinced I was pregnant and miscarried. I was pregnant before (it also ended in miscarriage), so I am familiar with the feeling. Because I had miscarried, I expected my next period to be late or a little off (my period did indeed start a few days later than I'd thought it would). Then I started taking Loestrin FE. I have been on it for nearly two weeks and have been bleeding the entire time. It's very, very light and painless, but continuous enough to be annoying. My main concern is that the irregularity may be coming from an incomplete miscarriage rather than a side effect of the pills. Other than this irregularity I've experienced no side effects. The blood is a light pink or a dark brown most of the time, but it is also a bright, fresh red sometimes with small bits of tissue. Again, there is no pain or cramping. The bleeding also seems to have a pattern: it is heavier in the mornings and evenings, and stops toward the afternoon.
Does this seem like something caused by birth control, or could it be remnants of a miscarriage?

Irregular bleeding, when you first start oral contraceptives can be normal and the specifics of it, such as heaviness, color and etc. can vary from person to person.

Unfortunately, no one is going to be able to give you any more specific details just from the information in your post. You need to see a doctor and have an exam done to see if you suffered a miscarriage or if it is from the pills.

Do you have a regular gynecologist?

I've only gone to see an OB/GYN twice in my life, and it's been a different doctor each time.
So far, it's seeming more and more like the bleeding is just from the birth control pills.
Thanks for the info!
