It really depends on how long you have been on the methadone and the dose you are at. If your only dose was 60mgs of done sat morning and you haven't take any done before or after that I say your good. If you take 60 everyday you may want to wait day or two more. better safe than sorry...and you will be sorry.

I took about 15 mgs of methadone for 4 days then just 5 mgs this morning at 8:30am.. Am I safe to take 2 mgs of suboxone now only being 6 hrs? I feel sick with withdrawal symptoms now anyway..

NO ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Unless you want to endure precipitated withdrawal syndrome. You must wait at least 72 to 96 hours MINIMUM to safely transition to sub.

Yes you are fine, there may be a very slight reduction in the effect of suboxone, methadone has an extremely long half life, but you probably won't notice it. So you are fine.

I'm going to put my story here just in case someone has the same problem I literally just went through and I couldn't find anything on it. Okay, so to begin I am on a methadone maintenance treatment and I take 90mg. Well if anyone has ever gone to a clinic you should know they give you a take-home dose on Saturday for Sunday. Well fml, I wasn't able to make it to the clinic so I missed two doses... I had been offered a Subutex to help and was told that I would be fine. I did research found nothing so I decided f*** it, I'm about to find out for myself. So just to add important details to this, I did wait 56 hours before taking the Subutex and immediately went into p/w, the worst I've ever been through. It's a nightmare for sure x10. So I just went and took my methadone dose 16 hours after taking the Subutex and suffered for 16 hours. I'm having no problems now. I feel so much f***ing better, it's amazing. Anyway, this is just to help someone who might possibly have the same problem. Hope this helps!

Re: Martin Irving (# 4)

DO NOT LISTEN TO MARTIN IRVING! Ur going to b miserable if u take Suboxone too soon! I was on 75mg of methadone for 2yrs, I waited 4 days to start the sub & I still went into WD. I waited another 24hrs & luckily didn't have any more problems. Remember, everyone's metabolism is diff, so what works for one person might not work for u. My Dr told to wait & take the sub until I'm n full blown WD from the methadone, not just uncomfortable but totally door sick!

Absolutely not!! U will go into withdrawals bad. It will be as bad to do nothing and just detox. If you need something you need SUBUTEX. The naloxone will throw you into withdrawals which is in Suboxone not in SUBUTEX.. been here and done this... trust me! Good luck.

Hey ppl. I came from 220mg of methadone down to 20mg in 16 months. I waited for 24 hrs and took a strip of suboxone and i feel ok. My doctor said I can take suboxone after 24-36 hrs of taking methadone. Hope this helps.

Re: DJ (# 6)

I was taking a tiny amount of methadone (taking a bit of my bfs every day not sure the measurement) for maybe 3 months when I couldn't afford my subs any more. I decided I wanted to switch back so I waited 2 weeks taking other opiates and when I took my Suboxone I was in HORRIBLE withdrawal for over 24 hours. Don't listen to anybody everything depends on ur metabolism and body chemistry everyone is different but I would rather be safe than sorry.

Re: MRO (# 5)

Seriously? I’m sorry. I get done 2 days a week, suboxone 2 days a week and subutex 2 days a week, but it’s the boat I’m in for now. I rotate all 3 like they are skittles and always only feel relief! Those meds must just metabolize fast in my system or something because that should have happened to me too. I absolutely don’t condone what I do whatsoever. Don’t try it because everyone reacts differently to medication. Going to the sub doctor soon to get back on track. No more nonsense.

Re: Takeasdirected (# 3)

I was on 160 MG for two plus years. I was in a situation where I had abused my take homes two days before I could go back to the clinic. I mentally tricked my self into thinking I was in WD. I took a suboxone and felt great again for like 30 seconds. Then I literally experienced hell on earth for 4 solid hours. Never made that mistake again

Hopefully you waited a bit longer. 60mgs is a pretty good dose of that meth. I waited nearly 90hrs when i was on 60mgs and still felt some pretty bad withdrawl when i started the sub. Methadone will linger in your system for quite a while. Enjoy
