Fentanyl/hot Flashes

Updated

Been on Fentanyl 12.5 for 3 months. Also taking Tramadol 50mg/2 pills every 6 hours.
Been getting hot flashes like crazy. 10-15 times a day. Have read that Fentanyl may cause this. Has anyone out there had the same experience?

Hi: I am having exactly the same problem. Terrible night sweats and hot flashes particularly where body parts touch eachother. I am at wits end not knowing what to do. Go from hot to cold in 5 to 10 seconds. My doctors don't know what to do. Was given an antisweat drug but it made me feel worse - dry mouth to the point of not being able to swallow

Unfortunately, this is a side-effect of Fentanyl. Depending on the dose you are on you may or may not have hot flashes.

I am prescribed 75mcg/hr and I have them all the time. When I first started on Fentanyl I was only using 25 mcg/hr patches and really didn't have a big problem with it flashes. When I went to 50 mcg/hr I really noticed the increase.

You shouldn't be running out throughout the month, as any doctor will prescribe enough to last an entire month, unless you are using more than prescribed. I take one 75mcg/hr patch every 48 hours (originally every 72 hours), and taken accordingly, I have enough for a full month's supply.

This medication is NOT a short-term pain solution and is only prescribed to those with long-term, or chronic pain issues. Therefore, a doctor will prescribe enough for a full month - again, unless you are using *more* than directed.

Not really much you can do for hot flashes though :(
