Eliquis: Stomach Pain, Abdominal Swelling, Bloating, Gas

Have been taking Eliquis 5 mg 2x day for almost 3 months. Seem to be having Stomach Pain, Abdominal Swelling, Bloating, Gas, Facial Swelling and lots of weight gain and water retention. Also brain fog and memory problems. (It's hard to tell how much of this is from Eliquis and how much from CHF associated with A-Fib. Also taking Beta Blocker and Digoxin.)

Eliquis has been out long enough for the pharmaceutical company (BMS) to put out a REVISED list of side-effects, to reflect real-life patients' experiences. Wonder if they have done so, or when they'll do so?

Am probably going to switch to Xarelto and stop the Eliquis, in hopes that the Xarelto will cause fewer problems.

Eliquis is superior. The choice is yours. It is nice that there are alternatives. As a side bar, show me a drug that has no side effects and it will have no activity. I have been taking Eliquis for over 3 years. It is certainly better than a stroke.

You might look at the Beta Blockers for all those problems, particularly the swelling and bloating. They are known for that.

I've been on eloquis 3 months for bloodclots,,the swelling in my stomach is so bad,I'm scared to eat,it doubles the feeling of pressure ,gas x doesnt help,I have copd,and the pressure from my belly,feels like it pushes against my lungs,,,and brain seems so foggy,,, help?

Been using Eliquist for over 3 years, was diagnosed with Factor V Leiden mutation, 2.5mg/twice/day, can't take Xeralto makes stomach hurt, my only side effects are swollen left & right feet when sitting for a time, and extreme bloating (have stretch marks on stomach side). Would love to find out if the many natural blood thinners couldn't substitute like baby aspirin, ginger, Vit. E, Ginkgo Biloba, clove oil, and others. Besides it would be nice not to pay the exorbitant price of Eliqist. Americans are gypped by big pharma on Eliquist and many other drugs.

I am still having stomach pain and discomfort my Doctor sent me for a ct scan and blood work said everything looked normal said it is probably a reaction to medication all i take is eliquis i cut my dose in have i only take 5mg @ night with dinner that has helped but i still get the discomfort and stomach pain now i am scheduled for a ILR implant to see if i really need to take eliquis or anything for AFib i have been on eliquis for just over 3 years and have only had the 1 episode of Afib just over 3 years ago i need to have this implant for 3 years to monitor for Afib.

I have been on Eliquis for over 5 years, had some side effects for the first 3 months and then none, out side of the price of it it's the best thinner I have been on.

I have been on Eliquis for 2 yrs and 5 months and have had stomach upset and nausea the whole time but for the last 5 months it has been worse it starts after i take it and lasts most of the day and then i have to take it again and the pain starts all over i normally wake in the morning with a stomach ache and fell nauseous, i cut my morning dose in 1/2 for a week and the symptoms are much less or even gone during the day but take the whole pill at night and start all over .

Squibb definitely needs an updated list of side effects of Eliquis. I would think the FDA would require an update. I think we Eliquis users should contact the FDA and demand it. The current printout is not accurate.

I have been on Eliquis since May. Was scared into it by doctors after taking Aspirin for years. Have had aura headaches since May. Is it a coincidence? Now having more and more digestive problems as the days go by. Becoming a nervous wreck over it all. Waiting for an MRI to check on the headaches. Unfortunately, not a med you can STOP taking. When I think of all the natural stuff we cannot take because we are on a pharmaceutical blood thinner because they thin the blood as well, I wonder if a regime of say tumeric, or ginger or fish oil might not be a better plan. There is no blood test to regulate any of it. So who know whats really happening.

I am having severe edema in my legs from taking Eliquis and Amlodipine. Should I reduce the doses?

I’ve was on Warfarin for 3years with no problems. Thought I’d try Eliquis instead and started it only one week ago. I started with abdominal pain and cramps about 2 days later and they haven’t gone away yet.It’s already interfering with my exercise and walking programmes. This pain is in the exact area that was somewhat damaged by my seat belt in my rear end accident 3years ago and I’m afraid I’ll restart bleeding in this area again. Will give it one more week then back on Warfarin, I check my INR weekly so no big deal.

It is impossible for me to stop it due to shortness of factor v
For me it a life time drug cannot live without and it is hard with
I have changed from xarelto 20 but the symptoms was much harder
Waiting for help to make it easier

Yes mame. My stomach bloats have depression and anxiety. And i dont want to eat. Been on for 3 weeks. Been horrible

Eliquis gave me extreme gas and bloating. Second time trying it. Gave up. Also, the expense was way out of my reach...sorry didn’t work. Back on Coumadin

update, after almost 8 months on Eliquis, first 5mg twice per day, Second 2.5mg. twice per day. I still have some Hemmoroid bleeding and stomach discomfort. My blood doctor tested me again for the clot in my leg. the test showed it was still some clot remaining in my right leg. He said even though the risk of occurrance remains, and is only 5%, The risk out ways the benefit of discontinuing the drug. He recommend staying on the 2.5 mg. 2 x day. until further notice, or if I have heavy bleeding. The bottom line is do I want a stroke or heart attack if I stop the Drug.

Update: I am off the Eliquis and all meds for arrhythmias. I am finding that controlling reflux prevents the arrhythmias generally speaking. No more fluid retention once off the Eliquis. I feel like I need further investigation for abdominal issues like ulcer, hernia etc., but the docs aren't listening to me!

Eliquis is making me sick with an upset stomach, nausea and a general yucky feeling. How long after I stop will I feel better? I've been taking it for nine months and plan on stopping for a colonoscopy and endoscope. I will not go back on. What alternatives to Eliquis are out there?
