Clexane / Xarelto And Fatigue Or Tiredness
(Newest replies first)

Hi everyone.. I injured my knee (patellar dislocation + meniscal tear) during martial arts practice and developed a DVT. The DVT was diagnosed approximately 20 hours after the incident but the circulation and swelling problem had started half an hour of the incident. So, from the blood work, i do not have any predisposition that could cause blood clots. Also, I am a very active person and used to train 6 days a week. I was on clexane 100mg daily for 10 days and conducted a second doppler evaluation. The clot was occlusive and 15cm long in the first place, and it became non-occlusive dvt in 10 days of clexane. I am not sure whether or not it shortened the length of the clot, but all the symptoms of DVT disappeared within 20 days. So after the 1st treatment, I was again on clexane for days and I am on the Xarelto 20mg daily for another 2 months. While I am on these blood thinners, I experienced shortness of breath, feeling faint, lightheadedness, stomach discomfort, and fatigue. The significant problem is the fatigue. It gives my life a hard time, i simply cannot read books or watch movies because my eyes are too heavy and feel like falling a sleep. No matter how long I sleep, it is still the same, it is just too hard to have a clean day. I feel like I'm trapped in a place surrounded by morning fog. Of course, emotionally it depresses me as well. Also, I was diagnosed with ADHD and am on dexamphetamine which was clearly working before I started blood thinning medication. I still remember how I had clear thoughts when I was in the ER, however the fatigue caused from the blood thinners make the effects of adhd medication ineffective. I get good days as if I was cured from the untreatable disease, but these days last only 1-2 days. I am seeing my hematologist tomorrow, but I don't think I am going to achieve anything... So, if anyone experienced fatigue or tiredness from the xarelto, please share your experience. Thanks.

None of my medicos including my haematologist will agree that my symptoms of aching and burning limbs (all 4) is caused by Xarelto...do they get a payback for prescribing this stuff??. However my specialist agreed
to take me off it and put me on aspirin (Cartia) but after 3 weeks I developed calf DVTs and was put back on a higher dose of Xarelto..nearly killed with with the distress of it.. Now I am on Eliquis and it is just as bad or worse. I really don' know where to turn now.

I have been on Xarelto for 21 days @ 15mg 2x/day & then 20mg 1x/day for 60 days. I am on day 34 and I have such bouts of fatigue that I have to nap. It is definitely impacting my life. Diagnosed with bilateral multiple DVTs & PEs. Was taken other medication they think caused clots. Having stopped those hoping the clots are gone & can get off xarelto. It's scary how tired I can get...

I've been on xarelto for over one year and have noticed leg fatigue with vigorous exercise, as if lactic acid is building up faster than it had in the past. Very frustrating but seems to be the only side effect I've noticed.

As i expected, the doctor told me that she never heard of this side effect. She was saying if I believe this fatigue is due to Xarelto, then she will consider to shorten the length of taking medication. So, I am going to do the doppler test tomorrow and the doctor will decide... Also, I had a big argument with my wife because I was so stressed and so sick of being tired all the time.... It is extremely stressful. i just cant comprehend my life at the moment.

Those are normal side effects of this medication, as reported by the U.S. FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, and easy bruising.

I understand how frustrating they are, because I am very sensitive to medications and often experience tons of side effects, however, you have to look at it as being worth it, if the medication saves your life.

What did your hematologist say at your appointment?
