I have been taking Chlorthalidone 25mg since June 2012. Prior to starting this medicine I noticed that I bruise very easily. I constantly have numerous bruises, ranging in size from large (baseball size) to very small on my arms, legs and chest. On average there are 10 bruises at any given time. Has anyone had bruising as a side effect from Chlorthalidone? My family is concerned that it's not the medicine (since this started prior to the medicine) and is something more serious. Am making a Dr. appointment tomorrow but would love to know if anyone else has experienced this. ## If it started prior to your taking the Chlorthalidone, then it can't be just due to a side effect of the medication. However, there is a chance that the medication may be worsening whatever issue is causing...

I am taking 25mg of chlorthalidone daily to prevent calcium loss. One of the side effects is that it depletes potassium. For that reason, I take prescription potassium. The mcg's keep increasing because blood tests every 3 months or so show low levels of potassium. My potassium intake has now been increased to 50mcg per day (it started at 20). Has anyone experienced this? Does this drug have potassium in it ## No, Chlorthalidone is the active ingredient, it is a diuretic that's most commonly used to treat high blood pressure. It can actually cause a deficiency in potassium, because it increases the excretion of it from the body. Learn more: Are there any other questions or comments?

I want to know the side effects of chlorthalid. will it effect my gums, and make my teeth loose ## Chlorthalidone is a diuretic that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and edema. It really isn't known to cause those effects, however, since it does remove fluid from the body, you will be dryer and this can include your mouth. If you produce less saliva, it can allow bacteria to stay in the mouth longer than usual, which could cause dental damage. That is something that you should be careful of, when taking it. You will need to make sure that you take in enough fluids in a day to prevent dehydration and such problems. Other side effects may include: nausea, dizziness and hyperkalemia. orange round ## I believe this is generic chlorthalidone 25mg or name brand Hygroton. It is a diuretic used to control high blood pressure. I think the number on this are from an old stock of pills so it was hard to find. Watch out for loss of appetite, diarrhea or constipation, serious headache...these could be reactions to the medication.
