Cheaper Equivalent To Postassium Citrate Er 10 Meq Tab (Top voted first)

my doctor has prescribed potassium citrate ER 10 meq tab. I just recently had my first bout with kidney stones. It's so expensive but my doctor said there's not a cheaper med. that is equivalent to this on the market. I live in Las Vegas, Nv. Can you help me?

Apparently there are MUCH cheaper alternatives to potassium citrate. Lemon juice is one option that exhibits similar efficacy to potassium citrate in the treatment of urinary calcium stones in patients with hypocitraturia.

Potassium bicarbonate (found in some fire extinguishers) and baking soda (Sodium bicarbonate) are two other alternatives that may also be much cheaper.

Additionally, potassium citrate is found naturally in many foods. Foods high in potassium citrate include bananas, dates, citrus fruit, dried apricots, fish (especially salmon, flounder, and tuna), green leafy vegetables, legumes, melons, potatoes, tomatoes, etc.

Rather than investing in a new dietary supplement or prescription med, getting rid of kidney stones may be as simple and easy as watching what you eat.

There is powdered form that is NOT extended release (ER is possibly better because it possibly gives a constant amount to physiology) It is just potassium citrate. There is a form called Citra-K (pharmaceutical grade) - (which is non ER but may or may not be cheaper... in 30 meq packets) - (possibly divide in 3 or put packet crystals in water and drink a third) Purebulk and Powdercity (Bulksupplement has negative reviews) offer lab certified Potassium citrate in a powdered form (you have to get a micro scale) that is extremely cheap. However, you take your chances with over the counter products even though they are supposedly lab certified. Purebulk uses a certified lab that is independent from the company, supposedly. Purebulk has been around for a few years. Powdercity may be new. Purebulk does have a couple of scathing reviews on review sites but a lot of good reviews, too. Swansons has a 99 mg capsule of PC but they mix in silica and stearate to make it flow better. (call em up and ask them about stearate, I did....looks ok) I am not a Dr. so this is not to be considered good advice or even accurate info.. I am considering taking the Purebulk powder. Am researching it this week.
