I AM ALERGY TO PENICILLIN AND I WAS GIVEN CEPHALEXIN TO TREAT A BOIL ABSSES,WOULD IT HAPPEN SOMETHING TO ME?? ## Hello, Jose! How are you? No, Cephalexin is the active ingredient in this, it doesn't contain any Penicillin. However, there is still a slight risk that you may be allergic to it, too. People allergic to one medication tend to be more prone to being allergic to others. The FDA classifies this medication as being an antibiotic that is most commonly used to treat or prevent bacterial infections. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

i have a script filled in 2010 that I didn't use. Can I still use thee capsules ## Hello, Bob! How are you? The FDA classifies Cephalexin as an antibiotic that's used to treat various bacterial infections. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, they do lose effectiveness once expired and you should just dispose of them. Taking them, when they aren't as effective, could create the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Is there anything else I can help with?

Hi ever since i have been taking ibilex i have been having weird scary thoughts, getting emotional, anxiety, trouble breathing & having night mares and & i already have bad enough anxiety and bipolar and adhd and asthma should i get my doctor to change my meds. ## Hello, Ianz! How are you feeling? I'm very sorry about the side effects that you've been having. And yes, I think you should see your doctor about trying a different antibiotic. The problem breathing is very concerning and could signify the start of an allergic reaction, which may just get worse with repeated exposure to this medication. According to the FDA, typical antibiotic side effects should include symptoms, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I...

How many times a day should I take this pill for strep throat? ## Hello, April! How are you? Are you referring to 500mg Cephalexin, the antibiotic? You should follow your doctor's dosing instructions. According to the FDA, it's usually taken every 12 hours for 7 to 10 days, depending on the severity of the infection. The side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I've been taking cephalexin 500 mg 3 times a day for 5 days now for my upper respiratory infection and sinus infection per dr request but i still feel pretty rough. Still coughing and blowing out nasty stuff. Why isn't this working yet? ## Hi Janice, Sorry to hear about your situation. Depending the severity of the infection(s) some doctors prescribe these antibiotics for up to 7-10 days, so it's possible that you may not get full relief for another 2-5 days. On another note, Cephalexin also has some strange side effects that in my opinion could inadvertently be mistaken for an ongoing infection. This includes "coughing, nausea and vomiting, sore throat, tightness in the chest, etc". Ref: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0044994/#DDIC603067.side_effects_section But n...

I recently started taking ibilex 500 for a skin irritation (possibly a bite) I started taking it 3-4 days ago and suddenly I have developed red itchy bumps on my ankles I have one on my right and 4 on my left... Could this be a possible side effect? ## Hello, Sheels! How are you? No, while antibiotics may cause a rash as a side effect, both it and an allergic reaction would be over most of your body, not localized like that. Other typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache and diarrhea. Where was the skin irritation, or bite? The bumps could be related to that. Have you had your doctor look at them?

Capsule dark and light green in color marked with 141 / KLX ## Hello, Misty! How are you? There isn't any specific one, it really depends on the type and severity of the infection. The capsule you've asked about contains 500mgs of Cephalexin, which can be used to treat various types of bacterial infections. Its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Has your doctor prescribed this for you? ## No I haven't been seen by a Dr. Due to lack of insurance, however I am experiencing painful symptoms and swelling resembling an abscess inside my gum just above my teeth. Plus one of the teeth affected has a moderately progressive crater (cavity) resulting in my not being able to eat. This is lasting the duration of my sinusiti...

I have been diagnosed with cellulitus on the inner side of my left leg at the ankle. Several years ago my ankle was severely broken and I spent 3 weeks in the hospital most of which was waiting for the swelling to go down enough that doctor could replace and fix the bone damage and close without having to use a halo device. One of the unfortunate side effects was poor circulation of the area. I have had the symptoms and low grade fever of the cellulitus since the 14th. My doctor was not in on the 17th and his NFP diagnosed it and wanted to send to the DR for IV antibiotics. I don't currently have insurance and didn't want to incur the expense. So I waited tell doctor was back on the 20th. He prescribed Keflex saying it spread anymore or the fever rose above 100 I would have to go...

green/white capsule ## I've searched for this several times over the past few days and haven't found it listed in any of our resources. I am pretty sure the reason for this is because it is something available over the counter. The ST is used by the company that makes Stacker products, which are herbal supplements used for energy and weight loss. However, I am not familiar with all their products and don't know which one this is. Does anyone else recognize this one? ## It's a CEPHALEXIN 500MG/CAP; replaces ULEXIN 500MG/CAP. joseph.org.tw/index.php?rurl=page20_2.php&drugmenu=3&id=93

Hello, I've been taking cephalexin to treat an arm infection and I've had an itchy/runny nose, sneezing, and mild headaches since I started taking it. I don't see this as a side effect. Has anyone else had this response? It seems like a mild allergic reaction. ## Hello, Raquel! How are you? It's possible that you have just caught a cold or are having an allergy attack to something environmental. It would be very unusual for an oral antibiotic to manifest an allergy with those symptoms. Have you consulted your doctor?

i can take amoxycillin... can i take cephalexin 500mg?? ## Hello, Libby! How are you? You can or cannot take Amoxicillin? Has your doctor prescribed the Cephalexin? ## @Libby - do you have any known medication allergies? Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic, whereas Cephalexin is a cephalosporin antibiotic. They are generally prescribed for similar types of bacterial infections (Cephalexin being given to those sensitive to penicillin antibiotics). I think you should be fine, just be sure to pay close attention to listed side effects or signs of an allergic reaction. When in doubt double check with your prescriber as well. Some possible side effects of the Cephalexin are: "Common adverse effects include digestive system upset such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, and abd...

How is your pup? Did anything happen? It's just an antibiotic, so I wouldn't think that one extra would really hurt much, but I have not studied veterinary medicine. Did you contact your vet?

I'm sure that I have walking pneumonia and I have some pentrexyl at home. I've been sick for quite a while and thought it was copd, but today I got a runny nose and I'm pretty sick...no energy, chills, wheezing, etc. I've been reading about this and it says that antibiotics cure it and I was wondering if this particular one would help. I also have cephalexin on hand. Please help...I don't have the money for a dr. and whatever this is that I have is horrible. I can't do anything. ## You really should see a doctor, even if you go to the ER, because not all forms of it are due to a bacterial infection that will respond to antibiotics. You can learn more about it here: Neither that you mentioned is the first choice for the infectious form, but Cephalexin is in the cl...

the bottle states disguard after 01/04/14...that is 1 month 1 day past. is it still safe to take? Every winter i seem to get sinus infections which is what this was used for, we are being hit hard with a snow storm and i cant get out to the dr. ## Hello, Colleen! How are you? It doesn't get dangerous once past the expiration date, but it does begin to lose effectiveness, which could lead to the development of antibiotic resistant bacteria. Have you tried calling your doctor? It would be best to do that, just to make sure it's safe for you to take it. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
