5 Mg Oxycontin Slow Release Withdrawal
(Newest replies first)

Updated

Hello- I've been taking Oxycontin slow release 5mg twice a day for 4 weeks post op. I want to get off them ASAP as I'm scared of becoming reliant. Do I need to see my GP to wean off or is it ok to just stop? Thanks!

You really shouldn't even have a tolerance yet, I believe you'll be fine maybe some slight anxiety/discomfort at the most. Don't worry and good luck you'll be fine

Hi..... Thank you so much for your reply. I spoke to my Pharmacist and they said the same as you. I need to continue taking them at the moment as i am only 3 weeks post Spinal fusion so it's early days. The Pharmacist said my GP will advise when I should stop and then under his supervision reduce the dose to 5mg during the day and stop the nighttime dose.
I don't like taking meds but I have no choice due to the pain. I didn't think the pain would be this bad!
Thanks again

Hello, Olivia! How are you?

You haven't been taking a very high dose, so withdrawals would likely be minimal and may include nausea, dizziness, fever, chills, diarrhea and rebound pain, according to the U.S. FDA. However yes, it would be best to slowly taper off, though after only being on them for 4 weeks, that isn't likely to be a long process.

Speaking to your doctor about it would help ensure that you do so as safely as possible.

Is there anything else I can help with?
