28 Weeks Pregnant And Requip Has Stopped Working For Me: I'm Desperate.
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I've been on 1mg of Requip since the first trimester with no adverse effects on the baby. Now, in my third trimester the RLS has become unbearable and I've had to increase the dosage to 3 mg a day, not all atonce. The medication has started to make me ill to the point where I'm vomiting multiple times a day. And its still not working great. I am terrified that the increased dosage will hurt my baby but without it I literally will get no sleep. I have tried everything including taking iron supplements. Nothing works. This is ruining my life. Does anyone have any insight into whether or not this increased dosage is dangerous? Thanks so much.

Hi! Congratulations on your pregnancy. I was in your same position. I take 2mg of requip every night at bed time and have since I had my son in 2012. I too can't go one night without it and have notice since I had became pregnant with my 3rd child that it's not working as well. My doctor did say I can up the dosage to 3mg a day with no problems. I didn't get to up my dosage before I found out my son had a trisomy 18 & had a miscarraige with him at 14 weeks. He had 9mm fluid on his skin at his 12 week ultrasound and the opted for the MERA 21 test. A week after the test was performed is the day they could no longer detect a heart beat. Doctor's don't think requip had anything to do with it but did state there is always a chance it may have. Goodles luck with your releif.

Yes they are aware that I am taking it. I've cut back to 2mg daily which is a low dosage. The thing about these animal studies is that they are based on ridiculous dosages of 60-100 mg while maximum human dosage is 4 mg. Anyway if I don't take the Requip I will get no sleep which will be more harmful to me and baby. I guess I just wanted to hear from other pregnant women that have taken this.

Hello, BethAnn! How are you? Congratulations on the pregnancy.

Since you are pregnant, it would really be best to consult your doctor as to what a possible solution might be, since it concerns the health and safety of both you and your baby.

The use of Requip is actually questionable during pregnancy, because while there have been no controlled human studies, according the FDA, animal studies have shown evidence of fetal harm and this is true of many drugs, so it would be remiss of anyone other than your doctor to try to advise you on this.

Is your OB Gyn aware that you're taking the Requip?

Side effects to this medication may include nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, headache and anxiety.
