I've been on xanax for 7 years, but i never take them everyday, nor do i take the full amount I'm prescribed (1mg tid), but usually take a fourth to one half pill, and that lasts the whole day 95% of the time. But now i worry, am i addicted? ## Dear Renzy, Physical addiction has set in if you try to stop the medication and your body goes through physical withdrawal symptoms like tremors, nausea, vomiting, and sweating. Psychological dependence has set in if you come off the drug but think about it all the time, or think about getting it or just craving it often. You might also think that you are in control of how much and when you take the drug and so you don't think you are addicted to it, but that's often not the case. You can still be addicted to it but monitor how mu...

I feel led to share with you guys my nightmare journey with Xanax. I have been taking it for well over 15 years. Sometimes, I would take quite a bit during some very rough situations in my life. I tried to stop a year ago and ended up in the Emergency Room of our local hospital. I asked my doctor for help getting off this nightmare drug, but she just said "taper" off. Finally I read different blogs of people who have stopped and became really inspired. You all know the horror of this drug. I had serious headaches, nightmares and memory problems to the max. This drug gives you ANXIETY. I am down to one half of a 1mg quarter and about to stop altogether as I cannot take the nightmares. This horrible drug, caused me to make very poor decisions during the past years. I lost of all m...

I'm taking 80 mg of Oxyicodone and 1 mg Xanax daily. How many Tramidol do I have to take to get off these drugs. I was diagnosed with cancer but am cancer free right now. Please help. ## I read that tramadol helps with withdrawals from Oxicodone. I take 80 mg per day. I also have 2 .5 mg of Xanax per day. I was diagnosed with cancer and it hasn't come back yesterday but everyday is a panic to find if its returned. I'd appreciate any help. I want to be freed from this drug. ## Hello, Sharon! How are you? It would be best for you to get medical assistance with stopping it. As to using the Tramadol, it can help in some cases, but it is a very mild opioid and also carries its own risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry m...

I do not understand why xanax is given on a long term basis. Xanax has a rapid onset and does not last long hence the need to have more and more. You now need to see a psychiatrist to get any controlled med prescribed in most states. Psychiatrist can safely monitor and perhaps switch to a longer acting benzo until you can wean off. Benzodiazepine is a dangerous withdrawal if you are not in a hospital and run out of medication. ## Hello Nurse V, Please, you do not need to go to a Psychiatrist although that wouldn't be a bad idea for those who can afford one, many don't take Insurance and charge $500 a visit instead of the $100 at a General Practitioner. I live in an area without Psychiatrists & my MD has little problem writing for some controlled medicines. Your State laws ma...

Which one should I try to kick first? Also, how do I taper off 125 mg daily of methadone? Right now, I'm down to five 1mg xanax. ## It can really vary from person to person. The modern method to taper off of any medication is usually to have the person gradually lower their dose while skipping days, at the same time, so you lower it, while spacing your doses further and further apart. The FDA does warn that both of these medications carry the risk of being habit forming, and may cause withdrawal effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, fever, chills, vomiting, and tremors. Have you consulted a medical professional? That would be the best way to find the tapering method safest for you.

I have been taking .5 mg xanax every night for the last 8 months to fall asleep. It actually works, but I think I'm having side effects. I used to wake up 3 times per night before Xanax, and now I sleep through the night, but I wake up exhausted and sluggish. I'm having memory problems and I don't feel alert. Am I addicted? Can I just stop, since it's such a low dose? Do I have to reduce slowly? It's only .5 mg per night. Any ideas?? HELP! ## Those are normal side effects for Xanax. When you use something regularly and your body is used to having it, it isn't considered addiction, it is actually called dependence. An addict has to keep using more and more of something, because they like the effects they get from it and must keep increasing the amount the use, bec...

I've been xanax for 3 yrs the withdrawls are very intense and can be leathal depending on how bad you addiction is. when i have withdrawls im cold sweaty shaking puking the worst feeling ever and sometime have covulsions. if you wanna come off xanax do it slowly and let your doctor know ## Do NOT stop xanax cold turkey, it can kill you! I have been on xanax for 20 years. 1mg at night. I decided I did not want this drug to own me. I cut back to 1/4 of the 1 mg. Big mistake. Head hurt, confused, trouble walking, light headed. I talked to my doctor and he told me to take 1/2 mg for 6 months then go to 1/4 for 6 months. The first two days after I started taking the 1/4 of a mg, I do not remember anything of those two days. I started the 1/2 mg last night and I hope the withdrawls start ...

Try Yermo or Newburry Springs, do people live there anymore? ## Maybe get off the garbage instead trading one dumb addiction for another.

I desperately need & want to get off of diladids. I have to have xannax for panic disorder n im scared of the problems with mixing the two. I take .5mg of xannax 1 to 2 times a day. N have been taking nuerontin for nerve damage & in replace of my antidepressant. So how safe is my medications going to be with the suboxin? I HAVE got to quit these diladids! ## Hydromorphone is nasty stuff. These are questions you want to ask the Doctor! ## Some doctors that tread with Suboxone won't let you continue Xanax, while under treatment, since it can also be addictive. They will usually make you switch to one of the antidepressants that can treat panic and anxiety attacks. But how much Dilaudid have you been taking? Suboxone is only appropriate for heavy addiction. This is a narcotic a...

I am taking suboxone 8.2 three times a day and my doctor told me this was the maximum dosage, however i am still struggling with terrible anxiety. I have read people take xannax or valium with suboxone. How is that? I didnt think i could ever get that as i am labled an addict by taking suboxone. Thanks for any advise ## Hello, Lorcos! How are you? I'm sorry about your anxiety issues. Your doctor is correct, that is the maximum daily dosage. As to whether or not someone can take benzodiazepines, while being treated with, that is entirely up to the individuals doctor. The FDA classifies Suboxone as an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and co...

Took for first time three hours ago as prescribed for bad mania caused by required large cortisone injections for acute arthritis pain. As prescribed (two 0.5 xanax plus two 5x325 percosets did nothing to reduce the manic anxiety and pain. Heart still racing and terrible anxiety continued. Took one extra 0.25 atenolol (have chronic mild atrial fibrillation, keep it on hand). Also took two more xanax and one extra percoset. Felt disoriented and sorta walking into walls for two hours. Now heart is fine, pain reduced, but I can't concentrate on Birdman and scared to go to sleep. It's 4 am...mouth dry. New to these drugs, and history of addiction to 30 years alcohol/fentanyl, but sober/clean for three years after seizure/coma due to cold turkey stopping drinking. Never do this again...

I want to quit taking them but, I really do have a tremendous anxiety disorder, even around friends, family and coworkers. I feel that xanax somehow manages or works for me and some days I feel I need more than I'm prescribed, which is the highest 2mg 3 times a day for 14yrs. So on the first of this year 2017 I tried to quit cold turkey, but 5 days into it I had a seizure and woke up with the ambulance putting me in to rush to the hospital. My blood pressure was 209 over 120. They gave me some benzo to help. I thought I was going to die and still do if I don't keep taking xanax... Anyhow, I'm asking any doctor, or addiction clinic for help. I really have a problem and feel my struggle with this medicine could result in my death. ## Rick, there are some great treatment progra...

Hi, I have very high anxiety.. I've tried everything!! I didn't want to be on any narcotics because I'm a opiate addict for 10 years and been clean for 2 years!! (Never looking back either, it was really hard to get off and I still think about it every day to this day). So I told my doctor this and that I did not want to be on anything that was addictive or a narcotic. So they prescribed me Prozac among a lot of other things. I had depression which I do not usually have. I have very very high anxiety and the only thing that seems to work is Xanax. Yes it is addictive and yes it's a narcotic. They won't prescribe it to me because I told them about my past addiction but that is the only thing that works. Has anyone else had experience taking Prozac and can say if it wo...

I have been addicted to pain meds and have done great on suboxone, until I have my psychotic episodes then nothing helps, and can't find any dr. in kentucky who will prescribe any kind of anti-anxiety meds with suboxone. I feel suicidal and would rather be dead than live like this. ## Hello, Sylena! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems that you're having. The main issue, I think, is the fact that Xanax can be habit forming and is very commonly abused. If you're already being treated for addiction, them most doctors are going to be very reluctant to prescribe it for you. It may also cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability and mood swings. Additionally, if you suffer from mental health issues, you'll need to see a specialist and most ...

Does Wellcare medical card cover suboxone in Kentucky? Also my first appt is tommorow and Im afraid they will not see me because I took a couple xanaxs this week. Will they do that? ## Hello, Katie! How are you? They might, if it wasn't prescribed for you, but I can't say for sure, since each doctor can set their own policies on that. As to whether or not Wellcare covers it, have you tried checking with them? Or asking the doctor you have the appointment with? The FDA lists this medication as being a narcotic that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Does anyone else know? ## If it is your very first appt. you might be ok. He may ad...

My psychiatrist gives me Adderall and Xanax and has been for 2 years. I went to the Suboxone clinic and got Suboxone and I guess it came up in my drug panel at my psychiatrist and she will not prescribe me my meds. Now I'm going through serious withdrawals. Does anybody have any suggestions? ## Since they are both considered by the FDA to be habit forming, that is a normal occurrence, most doctors will not continue prescribing them for someone being treated for an existing addiction. While I understand an addiction may not be why you sought out a Suboxone clinic, I am just telling you how your psychiatrist most likely sees it. Did you inform her ahead of time that you were taking Suboxone? ## My doctor prescribes me Suboxone and Xanax; though it's a very small dose. Plus this is...

In the past I have been prescribed .25 mg alprazolam (Xanax) to take as needed. I would take about one a month. I am 46 years old with mild TBI (traumatic brain injury), seasonal depression and PTSD. I am unusual in having zero problems of drug addiction: I am super careful in monitoring my reactions to all medications, will never take anything other than as prescribed, and will still never take anything until first I've researched by myself its dosage, reactions to other medications, dangers and side effects and decided that the prescription is indeed worth taking. My current psychiatrist does not want to prescribe me Xanax, stating that it will cause permanent brain damage. I do not want to take Xanax if indeed just taking it once causes permanent brain damage! However, previously...

Hey, I have been prescribed adderall for the last 10 years, but recently I was abruptly cut off. This was due to an illegal invasion of my privacy, and I have severe add/adhd. As a result, I'm about to lose my college investment. I also am in a methadone maintenance program, but I desperately need my add meds. back to regain my executive functioning skills. I have never abused my adderall and my records concur. Is there a recommended doctor in eastern Wisconsin that will prescribe adderall and xanax in conjunction with one another? I have severe anxiety as well, and I was just about to graduate with a dual-degree from a prestigious university until I was abruptly...
